Re: My Point of View

In response to Margaret, yes "congratulations" are in order: I have achieved grandfatherdom. As regards Byron's quirky take on Seamus Heaney, all I can add is Arlo and I were born on Thursday. Kwills, thankyou for your kind message. This piece was written very quickly; two days after Arlo was born. I...

My Point of View

My Point of View (To Arlo Andrew John McGeever ) A drenched Thursday morn, fifteenth of July, the day I was born, and sounded a cry. With nine months inside, in seconds I'm out: no more room to hide, what's life all about? I open my eyes and manage one peep: now don't be surprised if I fall asleep....

Re: What are your reasons for loving/respecting Leonard?

My own reasons for "loving/ respecting Leonard" are probably best summed up in the piece I had published in the Files some years ago.

" a time of innocence, a time of confidences"
Forgive my mistake in quoting a line from Simon and Garfunkel's "Bookends".
Andrew.

Re: i don't get it

Dear Geoffrey, Please accept my apologies for not posting more replies on the important thread you started. I've read all the messages, most of which don't address the question you posed: none of them answer it. Beokii seems to be on a planet of her/his own. " It is essential for humans to have a go...

Re: i don't get it

Dear Beokii, I read your topic and was struck by some lines: "Leonard Cohen has crypted lyrics. All based on one secret". You then go on to quote a single line from Leonard's song, "Democracy", and announce,"it means Emotion is the difference between thinking and the truth" (sic). I disagree. If you...

Re: Scotland

Which poem would you grasp first if they were all scattered ? I don't know, and being old-fashioned , would say "women and children first". Red Poppy, thanks for posting The Proclaimers "Scotland's Story". Yet, as a nation, we continue to feed on glorious defeats. This cannot be the same experience ...

Dear Geoffrey,

There are issues which should be discussed, if you wish.
Yours, as aye,
Andrew.

Re: Leonard Cohen- Kevin Barry (Dublin, 1972) Help please.

Dear Evie B, An afterthought...the concerts where Leonard sang Kevin Barry took place 2 months after Bloody Sunday....Dublin first, then mainland Europe. Not England. This all happened 38 years ago, yet it was just last month that the independent enquiry revealed that all those shot dead were "unlaw...

Re: Leonard Cohen- Kevin Barry (Dublin, 1972) Help please.

Dear Evie B,
At that Black Horse concert where you saw Paul Simon, did you see/ remember another singer called Robin Harper on the same bill?
He's a friend of mine, and recalls times he performed with Paul.
Yours,
Andrew.

This post is to remind John and Margaret about one of many poems I would love to have written.

Re: CONCERT REPORT: Liverpool, July 14

I agree with everything written in the previous pages. I especially agree with those who've chosen to disagree. No arguments from me, yet some things must be said... A big thankyou to John and Margaret for putting me up (or putting up with me  ) for two nights in Chester. Also, a big thanks to...

Re: Meetup in Liverpool 14th.July

Dear Daveeliver, Thankyou for all the planning re bars and restaurants:right now though, I'm making my play-piece for the train journey down south to Englandshire. I hope to see the usual suspects (and unusual ones too :D ) in the designated bar, whose name I can't remember. Yours, getting increasin...

Re: Meetup in Liverpool 14th.July

I'm going to Leonard's concert in Liverpool on the 14th :D . It will be a long, tortuous journey, via Crewe, to Chester (overnight stop), then Liverpool, back to Chester (overnight stop), back to Crewe, then Carlisle, eventually Waverley. I just hope Leonard recognises the joy I'm going through, and...
