Buddha

I found a quote but I don't know where it comes from and I'm wondering if someone can tell me. The quote is by the Buddha and goes: "Believe nothing, no matter where you read it or who has said it, not even if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense." I also h...

Prayer For Love

I love the sun and the moon and the stars. I love raindrops on a cloudy day in fall. I love the beaming smile of a newborn boy. I love the scowl from a hateful, old woman. I love swear words that emanate from a homeless drunk. I love the fulfillment of a dream. I love the destroying and shattering o...

Elizabeth, it reminds me of the story of Nick Drake's life. Drake sold less than 1000 copies in his lifetime and his music is just now starting to become popular. There is also a line in a Nick Cave song about fame: "I remembered friends who had died from the exposure and I remembered other ones who...

Don't worry about it, most people don't know who he is. Sadly, he'll probably become popular only after he has died. If you saw Good Will Hunting he did the song, "Miss Misery." He has a new album coming out now too.

Elliot Smith

On October 21, 2003, Elliot Smith put a knife into his chest ending his life at the age of 34. He was a great man who's music gave hope to many. The world will be a shade darker now that he is gone. Peace and love be to his family and friends. "...after all it's not easy banging your heart up agains...

Story of Isaac

I've interpreted this song to be about war, is that correct? LC-"This is a song about those who would sacrifice one generation on behalf of another."

I don't think it's the reflection in the mirror, instead it is a picture in a picture frame. It looks like it could be LC. It could also possibly be De Niro. Or maybe just Tom Waits at a younger age when he's unshaven.

I changed the post out of fear that I might be murdered. I guess that phrase works better with someone who is already dead. It would be nice if Christians were open-minded enough to say it about Jesus.

Chaos

I am chaos.
Love me or hate me
It makes no difference.
I am the world
And I do not need you.

I think you have to realize that there is a big difference between saying, "I write poetry" and "I am a poet." The Gita emphasizes detaching the action from the person. "Hate the sin, not the sinner." So also it goes, "Love the poem, not the poet."

I believe that poetry, like philosophy or religion or any field of knowledge, is a pursuit of Truth. If one is sincere in trying to find Truth in the world, then they will put all their energy towards that pursuit and will have no thoughts of the self. I think beauty does come out of inner struggle....

I guess another part of my question would be why the discrepancy between the Gospels. In Luke and John this incident does not seem to occur. There does not seem to be any breakdown whatsoever.

The True Poet

If you have ever said the following: “I am a poet,”
Then you are not a poet.
And this is unconditionally, categorically undeniable.

The true poet hates his own skin
and wants nothing more
then to hide his hideous face
inside of his coat pocket.
