News Story

In my hands there is a message to remind you that justice is a duty towards those whom you love and those whom you do not. And people's rights will not be harmed if the opponent speaks out about them. The greatest rule of safety is justice, and stopping injustice and aggression. It was said: Oppress...

Einat, thanks for responding and I like the answer you gave for why God was referring to 'us.' For the second answer it seems a little strange that Cain would be referring to animals. What is the Hallacha? I'm thinking it might be worth it to learn Hebrew just to understand the Bible.

Meaning of Life

The student went to the master and said, “Master, I have become so depressed lately, I do not wish to do any activities, I do not wish to even think anymore. You see, master, I have come to believe that there is no reason for anything in this world.” The master replied, “What you say is true, there ...

Sandra I've seen this answer before, I guess I'm not really satisfied with it. I thank you for responding though but I do not see this trinity mentioned anywhere in Genesis and I do not think the Bible supports this idea. I'm also curious when monotheism first appeared in history. About Cain, in the...

Bible Question

I don't know if anyone can answer this but I had a question about Genesis. The beginning of Genesis talks about the Story of Creation and the Garden of Eden. It says that God than made Adam and Eve. Genesis 1:26 says, "Then God said, 'And now we will make human beings; they will be like us and resem...

Thanks for the comments. Liz, this is how the poem originally looked, though without the dashes. When I posted it the indentions were taken out. I hope this makes the last five lines more accessible. Otherwise I would agree with you about the 'and' s. Laurie I agree with you too that the poem has so...

Summer Air

With the sun nearing high noon, Summer rays glazed the skin, And pulled for the sweet smell of sweat. Subtle waves came one after another, Gently rocking the boat. As the lone sailor laid, With bare feet and sleeves rolled up, He gulped the summer air. Looking over the blue desert, Past the city sky...

The Shy One

I have hidden myself inside this shell And you inquire as to if you can have a look But that ruins the mystery of who I am And if you do not know, maybe you will erroneously suppose That hidden in the grotto my spirit has fecundity It would bring my end for me to discover That I am not as great as I...

The Tinman

With blood flowing fully All energy exploding Cascading effort culminates With enough force to push a camel through a needle Not enough to bend the finger attached to the hand In the direction the brain already chose for it to move Floating on the ocean of existence Pummeled by the billows of time T...

I recently realised that in all of the Buddhist scriptures I have read I have never seen 'God' mentioned. Is the Buddha supposed to be God? Is every Brahmin who is in their last life on Earth part of God, or do they become part of God after they die? Also, has anyone read Tolstoy's later works and r...

I was wondering if anyone knows where the 'Tiger and the Strawberry' story comes from. I heard that the Buddha told it in a Sutra. For those who don't know what I'm talking about here it is: A man travelling across a field met a tiger. He fled, and the tiger chased him. Coming to a cliff, the man ca...

Makera, I actually like the past tense better for that quote because otherwise it seems like it is a command or an order to be enlightened. In past tense it seems to be from his personal experience and he's asking us to follow. I agree with you on the trouble of translating. I've heard that orthodox...

Private Love

Here in the dry land We are all straggling Surrounded by vultures Only our private thoughts We cling for anything We trudge on with Only our private love That no one can receive That no one will know. Down through the dark alley An immovable form Stoic and steel-eyed The insides shattering With a vo...

Helven, thank you very much. That must have taken a long time to write which I very much appreciate. I guess I will get started now trying to read some of these texts. I already read the Dhammapada which I said before, also I have the full Jataka and the Diamond and Heart Sutra. Some of my confusion...
