Hello friend!
It was comforting to me too Cate- sometimes my prayers get answered in a way I can recognize.

Re: The Darker Album and the Songs
My favorite line from Popular Problems is 'I was alone on the road & your love was so confusing.' When I can't see how what's real is right & perfect that's my prayer. Today I heard 'They ought to give my heart a medal For letting go of you' I have that medal. It is inside a little tin in a lockbox ...

prayer & meditation
a genderless figure in black
throwing a rock as if in anger
in the same place not two hours ago
I gave the medicine of tears
& prayer to my panic
what do I do with my eyes
throwing a rock as if in anger

I gave the medicine of tears
& prayer to my panic
what do I do with my eyes

Re: Were Leonard Cohen to write a memoir
I'd like to know what the ends of romantic relationships were like for him. And the beginnings, and everything in between. I'd also like to know what Leonard's relationship with god has been like. What is prayer like for you is a question I'd like answered. On the double. You know, nothing too intim...

Re: Loser on the Moon: On Leonard Cohen, Fandom, and Posteri
This was such a pleasure to read! There is a person in the world who wrote an essay on Leonard Cohen & titled one section What We Talk About When We Talk About Leonard Cohen, like Raymond Carver. I wish the writer were a woman. We should all be writing such essays about Leonard in our style. I love ...

What a pleasure to come across this post, Joe. I was hoping this kind of discussion would spring up somewhere, and that I'd witness it. I want to echo what you said about My Oh My: the simple ache of 'held you for a little while my oh my oh my' really kind of socked it to me the first seven hundred ...

Re: Federico Garcia Lorca
Thank you for resurrecting this thread. I love the line with 'spikes of hyacinths': I touched her sleeping breasts & they opened to me suddenly like spikes of hyacinth. I was feeling a lump of sadness in my gut this early morning. Reading Lorca's poem made my perspective on the world just a little b...

Thank you for posting that. I love most the line in the opening paragraph about how broken life is.

Re: Wake to the Sound of Rumi Playing the Drums
Hi Cate. I'm listening to a live version of Jeff Buckley singing 'If I Knew You.' That doesn't have much to do with anything, except that it's playing while I'm reading your poem, and it's making for a particularly sweet experience. Who is he- your heart? And where did those lines of Leonard's come ...

I have also been reading this thread every couple days & enjoying your messages. It doesn't often occur to me to say as much, though. I was never very good with people but getting better

Re: One book of poetry?
I have loved: Hybrids of Plants and Ghosts by Jorie Graham, because it was given to me by my mother, and has one of Mark Rothko's paintings on the cover. David Budbill's Moment to Moment for the same reason, but not the Rothko part. Plainwater by Anne Carson, for every possible reason. Handwriting b...

As long as there are posts like this I will sift through all the crap that gets posted in this (still, quietly) remarkable community. Thanks for thinking to share this here, and for sharing it.
