Re: Isle of Wight release (Oct 20) - all details

Is it just me, or do others doubt that this is the ONLY footage taken? I mean, I saw one vignette of the 600000 crowd, which is extremely unlikely, and they blew the footage of SASB? And they used footage that did not belong to songs, but left the SASB chorus out and did not use substitute footage o...

Re: Isle of Wight release (Oct 20) - all details

hey, I finally found it. A negative review! Well, it had to happen. See below. Anyone know why they dropped the "our man" from the Chelsea plaque? And, did he mention the honor at MSG? I don't think it would be fair to expect an artist to sing pieces from forty years ago the exact way it had been su...

Re: Isle of Wight release (Oct 20) - all details

Thanks, Elcord. I heartily agree that the song absolutely should have been in full, with video footage or stills even. Since they used alternate video for part of the song, can anyone say why they would not have done so for the full song? That really is the issue. I did not even know that part of th...

Re: Isle of Wight release (Oct 20) - all details

Getting back to Sing Another Song, Boys...I played the CD and heard the whole song, so the audio was just fine during the video shoot. So, I am left totally blank as to why they would not have just used the whole audio and substituted crowd footage on video, if the argument is that the video must ha...

Re: Isle of Wight release (Oct 20) - all details

Thanks. I hope you are right about the omission in Sing Another Song Boys. I don't think ANYONE would have deleted it without a reason, like it didn't exist. There would be no good reason to save half a minute by shaving off the ending. It is so missed, however. Does anyone know what he was saying a...

Re: Why "G-d"?

I still maintain that God is not a name of God and therefore, strictly speaking, is exempt. It is a noun, not a pronoun. I don't know the history of how this started but someone in a rabbinical seminary does I am sure. We should also refrain from saying things in anger, such as ---damnit. or Jeezuz ...

Re: Isle of Wight release (Oct 20) - all details

Thanks, fellow Cohenite! I did not know this. I have not heard the CD yet, but will tomorrow morning. So, the Songs of Love and Hate version was not edited to add the chorus; rather the so-called live version was edited out? Why the hell would they edit the climax out? This makes no sense to me what...

Re: Isle of Wight release (Oct 20) - all details

Has anyone noticed that Sing Another Song Boys is a little different than on the album? The ending adds another chorus on the album, which wasn't there in the performance at the Isle. I haven't looked into this, but anyone know 'bout this?

Re: Why "G-d"?

Actually, it is confounding, since the word God is clearly not a name of God, right? I spoke with a highly respected Orthodox rabbi about this and he informed me that you can write God with no problem for this reason. Yet for some reason it is customarily not done, which he believes is a misundersta...

Re: "Not a Jew"?????

You say I take the Name in vain, I don't even know the Name... I thought that Elohim was not a frequently used name, since it is a plural, and seems to refer to angels and God. It is in Bereishis, I reckon. It is interesting to note that a very esteemed Rabbi told me that the word God can easily be ...

Re: "Not a Jew"?????

Crack, Yes, thanks for the link. That's a good review. Interesting to contrast LC and Dylan. There's a lot to discuss in all this, when I have the time to spread out a little. Good observation, by Bright Behind Me, about the poem. I am in deliberation about the personal vs nonpersonal senses of God....

Re: "Not a Jew"?????

Hy, Hydriot, Yes, the worst of the anit-semites are Jews. I see this all the time. Hitler was pretty good too, though. He was Jewish by his own definition, however. There are many reasons for this. It requires knowledge about the issues, which the vast majority have no interest in. Look at Simone We...

Re: "Not a Jew"?????

Cracked, Yeah, I read the interview after my post. I agree with LC that Judaism loses untold young because it fails to address the spiritual dimensions. So many Israelis visit towns in India that they have learned Hebrew! That's wild. It's complex. I think that the marriage of Zen and Judaism works ...

Re: "Not a Jew"?????

Well, I read the poem as referring to himself. There is some ambiguity and I don't have time to go back to the context of it right now. I think that although he now celebrates the Sabbath, it is by no means obvious that he always has done so; in fact, it is highly dubious. He does come from a Jewish...
