Re: A dream I had.......
That is a beautiful and completely insightful interpretation! I thought about the "Tower of Song" thing too....makes perfect sense. You're right, most of the time I don't feel in control of my life, but WHO does?...... ......but, I'm more than happy to let Mr. Mas or Mr. Cohen do the driving!!!!! :D...

Re: A dream I had.......
Didn't Bob Dylan say something like "...I'll let you be in my dream if I can be in your dream..." ? It's so funny, when you have a dream like this, it lasts what seems like 5 seconds, then you wake up and desperately want to go back to sleep, to pick up where you left off. As opposed to, if you're d...

A dream I had.......
Okay all you dream interpreters out there....this is the absolute truth, I'm not making any of it up....I woke up this morning, having a dream that I was riding in a car with LC. He was in the backseat and I was riding in the front with Javier Mas DRIVING!!!!!!!! He reached up around my shoulders wi...

Re: "Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, Liturgically Correct"
Surely, Delilah's first attempt to betray Samson involved binding him with a particular type of creeper? So the 'tying' is entirely appropriate to a religious setting. And who is to say it wasn't a kitchen chair he was sitting on at the time? :) Yes, it is a reference to Sampson and Delilah, and I ...

Re: "Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, Liturgically Correct"
.. I don't know.. to me, if this song is in some sense a supplication to God, it really has more to do with one's kitchen, than the church.. the idea that we're even having this conversation as if to question whether its "worthiness" should be "allowed" in church almost, tells us more about what's ...

Re: "Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, Liturgically Correct"
'Hallelujah' could easily be put into a hymnal, as could "If it Be Your Will".......if THAT song isn't a hymn, I don't know what is........
For 'Hallelujah',you might have to omit the "...she tied you to a kitchen chair...." verse out, for most easily-shocked churches.....

Re: "Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, Liturgically Correct"
I have removed my prior post. Sorry I used big scary print in the old post, but I really think this song should be left alone and NOT have other lyrics put to it. This song really has nothing to do with Christianity. Sorry, but it doesn't. I didn't mean to "flame" the artist on the forum. Sorry. ---...

Re: My painting
B4Real, Sorry I didn't get on here until now, my life is INSANE at the moment. Anyway, thanks for these links....they have helped. I think everything is going to conglomerate together in my head...hopefully it will translate to my canvas with some tolerable coherence..... Thanks again! --Rain

Re: A comment: Why Leonard Cohen cannot change his name
Well, actually, it was my fraternal great grandmother, who was Jewish, from Germany, so I don't know if that "counts" or not, since it's my dad's side of the family.
In any event, Mr. Cohen strikes me as someone who is proud of his Jewish roots....it pops up so often in his poetry and songs.

Re: My painting
Interesting image, neo, on that last post. I can see where this would fit the song, abstractly. Or maybe not so abstractly......very vivid image.

Re: A comment: Why Leonard Cohen cannot change his name
Leonard Cohen should never change his name and neither should any other Jewish person. You should be proud of your heritage...period.
I was raised Christian, but I have Jewish linneage, which I'm proud of. I do not deny it, or hide it.

Re: My painting
Thanks! :D I just thought I had said something REALLY wrong, or everybody was thinking "Well, isn't it obvious what he's talking about?" and thought it was a silly question. But that's the thing with Cohen, his lines can be interpreted several ways---that's the beauty of poetry--the splendid elusive...

My painting
I am currently working on a painting, which is based on Leonard Cohen's song 'The Gypsy's Wife'. It's kind of in the Orientalist style, moody, atmospheric, whatever. But, I'm trying to capture the "essence" of the gypsy wife, and there are, of course, a myriad of ways to represent her. So I thought ...
