nice change of view/direction in your poem, Boss. When I feel like that I go for a walk in the forrest or by the ocean and take in some noises from nature rather than all that prattle from humanity. Your man Thoreau said it well at Waldon Pond. His essay on "walking" is refreshing and would suit you...

Yes Dubman, the word "love" is a bit general in meaning in the English language. I believe the Latin based languages have more specific words like agape and amore etc. The Greeks must have something to offer here as well? Perhaps other tongues have said it better? I am fascinated by the various cult...

amigo, "stammerings" are the reminders of divine/mystical presence in everyday life. Cruz uses this word and I stole it from him. It is a compliment to you. Good conversation always leads to new ideas. Good Mystical poetry does the same and I suppose this is why it lasts. Your ideas/poem (posted) se...

I rarely write when I am unhappy. I did for awhile but the mind is such a power house that I tended to wallow in " head-up-my-arse-eosus ". I love the image/mistake of the happy dog waving at you. Very Zen! Ha! a kaon for sure. What a fantastic moment! What a fantastic line! I am still smiling as I ...

Quetzalcoatl Tchocolatl, "of course!" is the best answer for that "one night" of yours. I suppose space/time exists in the pre-big-bang dark night, as an arrow of potential at least, a child of nothingness, an idea from nowhere. I like Milton's view of that moment that goes something like this, (......

Tchocolatl, The second verse emphasises his position (frame of mind) " I set out one night, but I did not know " This unknowing is the thing that creates/is the dark night, a great springboard into the mystic. of seas and shores and waiting with a begging bowl. " I am only waiting for love to give m...

" and the steps that I heard in my playroom are the same that are echoing from star to star" Tagore is wonderful, Tchocolatl. "Full many an hour have I spent in the strife of the good and the evil, but now it is the pleasure of my playmate of the empty days to draw my heart on to him; and I know not...

Dubman, If you are into San Juan de la Cruiz, you may like these poems I wrote on his perspective on love/Love. Leonard would probably nod. They may seem a bit long, but as you know, Juan writes a whole book about one poem, so I have attempted to do the same below. The bed of Shiloh. ( reflections o...

wrapped around me

wrapped around me The steering wheel of my old blue bug spun 'round and cried "where is she I want her caresses I want her fingers wrapped around me!" "Ha!" You jerk! (I said), "me too !" The knob on the gear stick laughed "me too!" and the seat oh! the seat sighed "me too"... the mirror shattered t...

I assume your oral is over, but it is such a great topic, I'll respond anyway! It is about writing for yourself and not for your audience. It is about being a poet, not a prostitute. It's about artistic intent and not worldly fame or gain. about presenting the idea before the ego takes hold. about h...

influences on leonard?

It seems to me that there are influences of the poem "Dark Night of the Soul" by San Juan de la Cruz on Leonard's version of "Undertow". That mystical undercurrent of moving out through the melancholy of ones own soul through the dark night and into some form of union with the infinite. "On a dark n...

Chris, all these poeple are into the Jewish/Christian myth. It is a long tradition of "rappers" all the way back to Songs of Solomon in the Old Testament. Prince Charles, though future leader of the Church of England, was considering the merrits of returning to the fold of the Catholic Church. Bono,...
