Re: The poetry of "Ten New Songs"

Well, that link sheds new light on the Raven(s). ;-) I like the term "trickster", tchoc; it seems non-judgmental; in a nature/natural sort of way. It seems to allow us to enter into a new perspective. I read once that "Truth" was either delusion or illusion; maybe the "trickster" assists with the br...

Re: The poetry of "Ten New Songs"

"the Houdini of Despair" Tchoc, I think that is the most wonderful definition of Leonard Cohen that I have come across. I assume it is original Tchoc poetry? I suppose Cohen would suggest that it was his "longing" that made him desperate (despair) and g~d's "mercy" (communion) that gave him his Houd...

Re: rusty old and beautiful

ManicBlack I squat by the Quarter Moon; I am dark void and I am light, both emanating and reflecting. My mood may be today’s or tomorrow's varied sunshine, or scattered stardust or various moon cycles of the night; from no moon to new moon to full moon; but here, right now, I squat by the Quarter M...

Re: Interview with a Gardener

Well, since you are "doing the work" of building a poem, (or tilling the soil of this poesy,) I will take the plunge and add my two-bob's worth. But was it pity he felt, or the contempt of a man The first verse implies no pity by this observer, Jimmy. Just "contempt". I would work on this line above...

Re: The poetry of "Ten New Songs"

I saw a comment by “tchocolatl” on another thread and I thought much of it was relevant to this thread, (though completely out of context) so I edited it a bit (cut some out) and post what remains as thoughts that also work for reading Leonard Cohen’s or anybody’s work/poems. (I did this without cho...

Thanks for getting the ball rolling tchoc and thanks Diane for your comments and encouragement. Re: Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini

And though so many believe they are not accountable to anyone or anything, fact is they are.
...and even if people don't "believe", it is still a great way to live one's life...
to live a life as though one day we need to square the ledger.

Re: The poetry of "Ten New Songs"

Well, comrades, I have sat on my sand-hill too long. It has been awhile since we sauntered through many of the songs on this great album; and on re-reading the thread I noticed we were a couple of songs short. Song List: Ten New Songs, by Leonard Cohen. (http://www.leonardcohenfiles.com/tennewsongs.h...

"Hiding from the sun
I sit outside the fun"

There is plenty happening in this enjoyable poem but I love these two lines above.

Re: Interview with a Gardener

And what of the man sitting by his kitchen table, within his neglected house and an imagined tick-echoing clock? Maybe there is no assurance in a universe where the seasons have abandoned a garden of clay left unploughed and untilled. Wow! powerful stuff, Jimmy. Omar Khayyam would be nodding and ra...
