Re: Truth in Mercy

Lazariuk, Were but more people that say they are religious would apply to themselves concepts in their own books that encourage them to act with "full humanity" (in its highest sense) in "meeting and making relationships with others." For me to appreciate the beauty in what you wrote I took out the...

I can’t think of many instances when articles of faith were the bone of contention in Judaism, or when a person was called upon to defend or refute such articles. I'll tell you an instant that if it is not a bone of contention it probably should be and if it is not an article of faith it is somethi...

Re: Truth in Mercy

I think it would be worthwhile to distinguish between faith and beliefs with it creeds etc. I think that Martin Buber does an excellent job of comparing the faith of Jews with the faith of Christians in his book "Two kinds of faith" The following was taken from a book review I saw somewhre on the In...

give the verses a context that make a wholly different kind of sense, and I really like it. ~ Lizzy Those are so very encouraging words Lizzy. In Leonard's song the eskimo is spoken of as a "he" and further as "the poor man" yet in your above post you speak of the eskimo as being a woman. This made...

Thank you, Jack. It seems so clear now:-) I always perceived this song as love prayer, with clear plea on its end. ("Oh please let me come into the [your] storm.") But as we know, a man never got the woman, not by begging on his knees. Hi Tom Your post got me to thinking about the eskimo whi...

interesting, but cloudy. so say it in 4 lines, Lazariuk Sorry that I am lacking that kind of skill. I am willing to learn if you can demonstrate for me. Jack I am a little embarrassed by this above response to you. I think it was a knee jerk reaction to what seemed to me a rude jesture on your part...

One Of Us Cannot Be Wrong

It seems to me that this song is a prayer. The title convinces me that it cannot be otherwise - "One of us cannot be wrong" How many relationships do you know of where there is one in the relationship who 'cannot' be wrong. Every relationship that I have been in it seems that we are both wrong almos...

Re: When,Where,And What Was The First LC Song You Heard?

In the mid 60's I first heard a Leonard Cohen song at a place called Cafe Andre in Montreal. It was before Leonard had recorded anything and it was sung by Penny Lang. She spoke so highly of Leonard Cohen that it encouraged me to get his first album when it finally came out. Penny was a very enjoyab...

You could maybe think of serving red needles. Instructions at:

It is a drink that Leonard invented. You serve enough of them and everything else at the party will work out just fine.

Yes that Cafe. I don't remember who else other than who you mentioned being there. I had a party shortly after which you were unable to attend but many who you may know did. Here are some pictures of that wonderful party. Some others in this group may see themselves there http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/...

I do find it all a little funny. Much to the dismay of the teacher I got myself a prominent place in the picture that they all had to live with.
School was never a very pleasant place for me and so I am grateful for the small victories.

I don't think that any reunions would interest me.
