Re: The Darker Album and the Songs

Great stuff from you again, Jean. It is becoming clear what it was about Leonard Cohen that was so immense. I wonder what it was I wonder what it meant At first he touched on love But then he touched on death And what are us acolytes to do, now that the priest has died? I better hold my tongue I bet...

Re: The Darker Album and the Songs

Yes, I recall you telling me about your Ophelia film project, Violet. I know you'd put a lot of work into it, so I'm sorry to hear it didn't come to fruition. When you complete your novel, please put up some information on the forum for us. Your recent analysis of the literary devices LC uses is a f...

Re: The Darker Album and the Songs

Surrender, thanks for copying the earlier incarnation of the song. Violet, good to see you back here. You and subsequent posters managed to articulate the depth that comes through from Better Way , to do it better justice. Thanks too for causing me to read the marvellous article by Leonard's Rabbi t...

Re: The Darker Album and the Songs

Good to see you back, Doron. I can't find much to add about Better Way. It could have been written by a Christian who has just about lost faith. Sounded like the truth/But it's not the truth today might be alluding to an Eastern point of view. J Krishnamurti said it well: He alone shall know truth w...

Re: The Darker Album and the Songs

Just thought of this:
Desert rose is the colloquial name given to rose-like formations of crystal clusters of gypsum or baryte which include abundant sand grains. The 'petals' are crystals...fanning open in radiating flattened crystal clusters.

Re: Bluesman Bob Walsh

Yes, Bartleby's poem is gentle and tender. It alludes to fragrances. Like (Leonard and Anjani's) Blue Alert: There's perfume burning in the air/Bits of beauty everywhere; like On the Level: Your crazy fragrance all around/Your secrets all in view. I am reminded of The Beauty Of Death by Khalil Gibra...

Re: The Darker Album and the Songs

[I've just read a bit of the preceding page and agree with what Stuart84 has said, regarding Leonard's prophetic nature. This album, You Want It Darker, appears to me to be prophetic, as well... and I was grateful that his passing was the day before vs the day after our election here. I believe tha...

A very interesting convergence of ideas, Dagmaman. Thanks for dropping by with your insight on Land of Plenty.

I imagine God is indeed a closet optimist.

Re: "Mr. Misunderstood"

Flash back to the 'old days', Kush and Steven, with you two talking about Springsteen:-)

Nice Obama speech for the Boss. "The narrative you tell together is bigger than anyone could have told on their own."

Au revoir once again.

Thanks for the music of another recently lost Québécois.

I like this Hendrix cover that youtube kindly suggested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQN0qeCdJeI

Re: The Darker Album and the Songs

Hello Doron - I tend to be more of a reader than a writer in these intriguing in-depth discussions. You're right, there is so much going on at the moment. Also, I am sure we have plenty of time to get through the album, so your absence will be fine, for a while. (Plus it gives more of a chance for o...

Re: The Darker Album and the Songs

Cheers Joe, you are always too kind. Yes, it will be fascinating to hear what response Doron may have to Jean's post. What in particular made me ask whether you thought the song could be coming from God's perspective was that I thought the lines "If I couldn't lift the veil/And see your face" could ...

Re: The Darker Album and the Songs

That's a fine display, Jarkko. Doron, 'one by one', yes. It's marvellous that you are keeping alive the forum tradition of in depth analysis that you started with BoM. I must say, the tidal wave of grief and love in this 'news' section (and, no doubt, elsewhere) is humbling in itself. Jean, I apolog...
