The Window

Could anybody explain to me what is meant by 'a letter' in the following stansa of 'The Window', or give me the link to a place on the forum where it may have been discussed?

Re: Lines that get you every time

I find that most, if not all, of Leonard's songs are quite visual to me. His words are so expressive that I can "see" the song as much as I hear it. Suddenly the night has grown colder. The god of love preparing to depart. Alexandra hoisted on his shoulder, They slip between the sentries of the hea...

Re: Lines that get you every time

PS - I always heard 'moss' not 'moths', it fits for me better That just goes toe show: Interpretation of lyrics as of paintings or sculpture is extremely personal. These are Leonard Cohen's words when an interviewer's interpretation of 'dance me to the end of Love' differed from Leonards thoughts a...

Re: Through a semi-precious stone

Thank you for the explanations and information about the' semi-precious stone' and the refference to what LC said at the Isle of Whight. I have always imagined the central point of the lines to be the the act of 'looking through' a semi-precious stone at a late late show. Like looking through a warp...

Re: Lines that get you every time

Tineke, that was me - it is what I like to hear, so I suppose my brain hears it as "moths" rather than "moss" ;-) I thought the correct was "moths"? But after checking it just now, I see that it is actually "moss". Either one fits well. I just always pictured it in my mind as opening an old ...

Re: Lines that get you every time

Many of the lines that get me every time have already been quoted, thank you. Here are another few 'So set your restless heart at ease Take a lesson from these Autumn leaves They waste no time waiting for the snow ....... It's light enough, light enough To let it go Light enough to let it go' These ...

Re: Added verse to Marianne in Girona?

Forgot to say that I didn't ever hear Leonard Cohen sing this verse before. Not in either Rotterdam, Antwerp or Dublin. Or on any of the Youtube clips. Tineke
