Re: Trial period of Leonard's Internet Shop

Oh my G-d! Now I'm really scared! And with Leonard's name on that deadly cup even the lyrics of older songs fall into place: "..father change my name! The one I'm using now is covered up with fear and filth and cowardice and shame!" 8) Indeed, I wouldn't want my name on that thing. It can re...

Re: Happy Birthday Leonard (76 on September 21, 2010)

Dear Leonard, I wish you a very happy birthday among those you love and who love you. And I am sure there will be many of those on- and offstage at the concert tomorrow :D May you be able to enjoy your special day in spite of the tight schedule. Thank you once more for enriching my life with your po...

Re: Author of "Eat,Pray,Love" quotes Leonard Cohen on Oprah

It`s from Cohens song Anthem, but I believe I've read and interview where cohen said that he hear a sermon once from which the line was taken Although I should have known it was taken from somewhere or at least inspired by something/someone (as so many other great lines), I am kind of disappointed ...

Re: Lady Midnight.

But – could LC be intimating that the urge to create poetry dominates him as surely as if she/it were a dom, and thus he pleads and kneels before her/its power? I think both levels of meaning are intended. The poet and creativity as well as a man trying to win some kind of dom, maybe with both bein...

Re: Songs From the Road - new live album - Sept 14, 2010

The DVD's interesting too but an interview with the great man would have been really appreciated. Indeed! Actually I took it for granted that would be part of the Backstage Sketch, which I really enjoyed by the way. Still, I find it a bit disappointing that LC seems the one with a great lack of scr...

Re: Songs From the Road - new live album - Sept 14, 2010

 I had the "fortune teller miracle fish" too - bought the DVD in Germany. That nasty little thing claimed I was jealous and then made up its mind and decided I was in love  Well, why didn't they include the option: "you are excited about your new DVD" ? That would have meant sure success f...

Re: Tony Palmer presents "Bird on a wire"

Jennifer Warnes said that when Leonard sang "guided by the beauty of our weapons" he was referring to musical "weapons". Thanks for the reminder :) In more recent times, I've seen a speculative suggestion that Leonard was acting as a visionary, and prophesying the attack on Twin Towers! Very specul...

Re: Tony Palmer presents "Bird on a wire"

Puddingdale - a one-time friend of mind had a stranger take on "First We Take Manhattan". When I tried to play the album to her soon after its release, she heard the opening lines and then said "what is this shit?". She then paused and said..."I'll tell you where this comes from - scientology!". I ...

Re: Tony Palmer presents "Bird on a wire"

Thank you, lightning. So it all makes sense in Palmer's body of work... :) However, there are enough people who see Cohen as political even nowadays (Anthem e.g.). One ex-colleague of mine even accused LC of being a terrorist and refused to talk about his songs because of First We Take Manhattan :lo...

Re: Tony Palmer presents "Bird on a wire"

So, it seems it was I who misunderstood you a bit. Thanks for your opinion and the insight on the way these issues were dealt with in former times. Whatever I think on the topic of respect for the dead, I certainly would not have wanted Palmer to change his original editing due to the twisted tastes...
