Re: CD v. DVD of Live in Dublin?

I'm pretty sure the audience weren't tame but they've been muted a bit too much for my liking so that a true flavour of their input doesn't reach us. A pity- I'm not saying I wanted every bit of crowd chatter or the odd drunken excess captured but a bit more flavour would have rendered the recording...

Re: Live in Dublin Sound

I've listened to the digital release properly now and have largely been won over by it. I still prefer the SFTR mix a tad but overall this is working just fine for me and my earlier fears based on those flawed preview versions have been pretty much erased. Between this and PP, it's been a great year...

Re: Live in Dublin Sound

Ok- listened to the ITunes version once straight through but was on a plane so even with noise cancelling ear buds can't offer a definitive view yet but surface impressions are its a lot better than I feared but that's setting the starting point at a very low level. I'd prefer the mix to breathe mor...

Re: The Dublin live BluRay/DVD/3CD now announced

Thanks for that detailed overview Alan. Sounds like the release on that format will be good. I hope the digital release is as satisfying...

Re: The Dublin live BluRay/DVD/3CD now announced

Encouraging to hear Alan but when you say the sound is excellent, is it not the same mix as we've heard on the samples? Does it not sound somewhat more flat and lifeless than Songs From The Road? I hope not but fear so.

Re: The Dublin live BluRay/DVD/3CD now announced

The trailer is a bit deceptive too I suspect. It's full of atmospheric audience clapping which, based on what we've heard to date, is not representative of how it actually sounds at all. To my ears it's listenable but dry and somewhat sterile- not a patch on Songs From The Road.

Re: Live in Dublin Sound

Just compared Closing Time off Songs From The Road to the newly "fixed" Everybody Knows from Live in Dublin. The former still kills the latter in terms of mix due to a large extent to the audience presence being felt in a material way without being intrusive. The recording is allowed to breathe as a...

I still prefer the mix employed in Songs From The Road but at least this is now listenable

Re: Live in Dublin Sound

More good news- I just opened my crappy ITunes Everybody Knows and instead of playing it downloaded again and sounds distinctly better than before. It seems we may have been listened to...

Re: Live in Dublin Sound

So Long M does sound a lot better than what we've heard to date thankfully - and the synching issue is resolved - but as others have noted a real shame there isn't a flavour of the audience singalong to really document the night authentically.

Re: The Dublin live BluRay/DVD/3CD now announced

JudasPriest, i dont get it......presumably the same people who brought us Live in London and Songs from the Road (neither of which could be described as "aural soup" or "gunge") were involved in the production of Live in Dublin...why therefore would the Dublin version be as bad as you suggest? Also...

Re: The Dublin live BluRay/DVD/3CD now announced

The problem is it is out...the digital release of both tracks are on sale and what you get for your buck is aural soup- gunge of the highest order; offensive to the ear and dispiriting to the soul.

Re: Live in Dublin Sound

The drums and violins sound so compressed...so tinny and screechy...it's distressing. We have to collectively protest on this one in the name of Leonard's art. Ed's assurances don't placate me as what presumably is the final product vis a vis 2 tracks are already for sale. I can only imagine Leonard...

Re: Live in Dublin Sound

I'd be all for them putting the release date back if that will help. It's a sonic train wreck as things stand.
