Re: Dick Straub has passed away
Oh dear, I’ve not checked in here for awhile and am very saddened to hear of Dick’s passing. :( He was such a convivial man, indeed a delightful Cohenite... I recall him with great affection and I always saw him as one of the crew who have been at the forefront of our Cohen world, both online and at...

Book-stack promo
Our national broadcaster, ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation), as part of its evening TV news segment has a Finance Report by Alan Kohler. Alan makes these reports more interesting than the subject matter might suggest, with a quirky witty approach, and of late he’s been featuring a book-stack...

Re: Australian Ladies Tribute Concert to LC Anniversary Nov 7th
Bev, I strongly recommend you and whoever else is able to catch this live-streaming concert, as Junk and I really enjoyed the venue-based concert that this seems to be modelled on (with the same name), which we attended at the beginning of the year 8), though the artist line-up is clearly different ...

Re: Martin Kubetz and Marie-Élaine van Egmond - tribute
Bravo, Martin and Marie-Elaine, that was great, very special.
I hope we can witness you in action again somehow somewhere, hopefully at a rescheduled event in Belgium.
Maarten, thanks too for posting this here.
Cheers,
Andrew

Leonard’s praises sung, on radio
My son Tim sent me the link below to Episode 6 of a cool radio show hosted by Laurie Anderson, called Party in the Bardo, which some of you may be familiar with. Tim described the show itself as “quite spacious, poetic and reflective - perfect for lockdown”. 8) Anyway, he sent it to me because Lauri...

Re: The Demons of Leonard Cohen
In addition to Maarten’s and yopietro’s foregoing comments, the following quote is from my friend Clive, whom I shared this discussion with, being a classicist and linguist during his academic life. Hi Andrew, I think that title is perfect, however it may be spelt. Of course, as a classicist, I pref...

Thanks Joe, that was great, an appreciation from another and very humorous perspective.
Incidentally, I count myself privileged to have been at that concert too.
Cheers,
Andrew

Re: NOW THE COUNTDOWN: Waiting For The News To Come
In response to the comments by Bev and Lizzy, earlier in this thread, when I mentioned needing to be patient in a twofold way, as a grandfather-in-waiting, I can say my patience in this respect has now been rewarded. :D So if you’re Interested in the details, please refer to my post here: https://ww...

Yes, Bev, I‘m still in Cairns, as far away from that awful Melbourne outbreak as I can be.
Irrespective, I’m indeed awaiting my double joy!

Andrew

Re: Waiting For The News To Come
All hoped-for things will come to you Who have the strength to watch and wait, Our longings spur the steeds of Fate, This has been said by one who knew. Lady Mary Montgomerie Currie (1843-1905) [AKA - Violet Fane] So, I’m patiently waiting too, but in my case it’s a twofold thing, as I’m also waiti...

Re: Greece Poems
Hi Woody, I think I've found evidence that Leonard did finish a few poetry books on Hydra. Firstly, these three poetry books were published in the sixties when he was primarily resident there: The Spice-Box Of Earth (1961); Flowers For Hitler (1964); and Parasites Of Heaven (1966). Secondly, in the ...

Re: The Hydra Bench: trees & bushes!!
Thanks Jarkko... lovely to see!
I’ve also been missing Hydra, particularly as I’m now reading Polly Samson’s ‘A Theatre for Dreamers’, which beautifully conjures up everything about Hydra I relate to and, of course, what it means for us as Cohenites.
Cheers,
Andrew
