Re: All the SETLISTS

No surprises this evening (June 6) in Toronto - identical to Kitchener, I think. It was absolutely superb. I feel so honoured that I got to go. The setlist: First Set Dance Me To The End Of Love The Future Ain't No Cure For Love Bird On The Wire Everybody Knows In My Secret Life Who By Fire Anthem S...

It began with the words: "I used to be your favourite drunk". It seemed familiar to me, but perhaps it just struck a chord somewhere within me. It was great to be there. I live in Ontario now, having moved from England a year or so ago, so I just had to go. For those who are interested, th...

If I ever mention Leonard Cohen to anyone, I almost always get the response: "Oh - music to slit your wrists to", together with a laugh to indicate that they're the only person ever to have said such a thing. It used to annoy me rather, but these days I just tend to think that it's their l...

What amazes me is that there does not seem to be any book in print that has guitar tablature for Leonard Cohen's songs. Most would be well beyond me, probably, but at least it would be something to aspire to...

Restricting myself to just 3: You left when I told you I was curious. I never said that I was brave. You say I took the name in vain; I don't even know the name, but if I did, well, really, what it to you? There's a blaze of light in evry word, it doesn't matter which you heard, the holy of the brok...

A word I always associate with LC is 'kneeled' (in 'Lady Midnight'), but that is probably because I have never known anyone else to use it. My (Canadian) wife thinks it is used in Canada, though.

The only reason I got the "Greatest Hits" first is that a friend had mentioned a couple of books she liked. I read them, and loved them, and it was some months later that I saw the record and recalled that Gerardine (said friend) had recommended him. I sometimes wonder whether she stills l...

Actually, my first Leonard Cohen record was "Greatest Hits" (or "Best of") - the one with the yellow / brown monochromatic cover - which I bought in 19865 after a friend recommended it. It did at first seem a little odd when I listened to the original albums, but I soon got used ...

With "best of" comps you lose the time and place of the album, the original home, so to speak. I agree with that. I prefer the 'proper' albums for that very reason. I still get the others, because they are by Leonard Cohen, but I suspect that they'll wear out (if CDs do wear out...?) a lo...

I have that one. It is rather good, and isn't as heavily slanted in the direction of the most recent stuff as "The Essential..." is. It is always interesting to see others' compilations.

I had a listen last night, and the word 'light' sounds very much like 'lace', although 'bright' sounded clearer. I love that song, and in particular when Leonard Cohen starts singing.

We have solved this mystery - the special limited edition was after all (as suggested here earlier) just an imported version of the same product. Probably HMV ordered copies of the album from US before it was released in Europe, and now they are trying to sell the expensive version as "limited...

I have all the 'normal' CDs. And many of them on real records, too. I am tempted to buy the digipack, which is £5.99 in HMV, just because it is there. You are right that it is a superb album. My favourite, if I had to choose, would probably be "Songs From A Room", though even saying such a...
