Re: When Maciej Zembaty sang Leonard Cohen in Polish

For more information, see this page. It has the Polish song titles!

It would be interesting to see how Maciej managed to write Polish translations of these songs to the same tunes as the originals.

When Maciej Zembaty sang Leonard Cohen in Polish

Maciej Zembaty is notable for recording almost every Cohen song in his native language. It is common for continental singers to record singing translations of hits of the English speaking world into their own languages. This thread is about giving perspective on how Maciej's singing translations go....

Re: Why Leonard waited until 1967 to begin his musical career

It has been nearly a year since anyone posted here, how about an alternative history where Leonard Cohen did have that head start.

Why Leonard waited until 1967 to begin his musical career

Long ago, I realised something; If Leonard began his musical career in his early twenties or earlier, he would have had a head start on the Beatles and Bob Dylan in introducing the singer-songwriter and a head-start on the latter in putting poetry into music. So why did he wait until it was too late...

Re: Montreal: comments and feelings

I'm actually dissapointed by the setlist. For one, the song Hallelujah is quite worn out by now given all the covers. I was hoping this memorial concert would be something more special. For example, Leonard mentioned some songs he thought he would not be able to finish, but those were not included. ...

Shloshim

This is the Jewish mourning period lasting 30 days after burial. Has anyone here got anything to do for Shloshim? For those who were never friends with Leonard, nor his family, the Shloshim goes for 30 days starting from when his passing was announced.

Re: Leonard Has Passed Away

Let me guess, that fall would have had something to do with some complication to leukaemia.

Re: Leonard Has Passed Away

It must be a bitter time. We can be thankful for his son, Adam continuing Leonard's legacy.

Re: Song titles' relation to the lyrics

Death Of A Ladies' Man is also the longest released Leonard Cohen song, it's just under 2 minutes shorter than Bob Dylan's Desolation Row.

EDIT:If there is a relation between the title and the lyrics it's worth mentioning.

Can anyone think of other Cohen songs like this? I can think of Winter Lady and the Partisian.

Song titles' relation to the lyrics

I have recently realised that some of Leonard Cohen's songs have tites not used as lyrics, an example is One Of Us Cannot Be Wrong, I have long known the title but I only recently realised that those words aren't in the song. Another example is the Story of Issac, neither Story nor Issac are mention...

Re: Artists similar to Leonard Cohen

I don't know about all the other artists metioned here but Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen change around the music and lyrics each time they perform, I often wonder how other musicians manage to play along to either of them given how unpedictable they seem to be.
