Re: History of songs performed twice in the same concert

Update on Willimantic Shaboo Inn Concert: Thanks to "Goldin", "Jazzmanchgo" and others for further comment on the Willimantic, CT USA concert at the Shaboo Inn, espcially pointing out my error on the date (it was a long time ago!) - yes, it must have been 1975, not 1976. As for "old crow" vs. "cucko...

Re: History of songs performed twice in the same concert

Leonard Cohen performed a concert in 1976 at the "Shaboo Inn" in Willamantic, Connecticut, USA. He played a great set, there was an intermission, and then he came out and played the entire first set again for the second half of the show. That night, Bob Dylan's "Rolling Thunder" concert was playing ...

Re: "elaboration of a tube" - any interpretation suggestions

Wow, pretty sophisticated discussion! I just enjoy the music. I hated English classes where we had to interpret anything. I thought he was singing "tune" until I read the printed lyrics. I don't think it's a typo since L.C. takes years to craft some songs. At first I assumed "tube" was an "evo-devo"...

Re: Leonard Cohen Holiday Album?

*See the "Leonard Cohen Singing Silent Night" Post (Dec. 17th) for a taste of what a Leonard Cohen Holiday Album might sound like. I don't think Mr. Cohen is capable of commercializing holiday music. I appreciate all the comments, and I think it would be worthwhile for artistic and asthetic reasons,...

Re: Leonard Singing Silent Night: "Holiday Album"

Thanks! When I posted the Dec. 4th comment suggesting a Leonard Cohen Holiday Album I didn't know there was a Leonard Cohen version of "Silent Night" out there. I think it's a good advertisement for more, and if not, this will do.

Re: queen victoria/Jazz Police/funny line

*Didn't like "Jazz Police" much at first, but I listened to it because "Stick another turtle on the fire, Guys like me are mad for turtle meat" cracked me up. Then it grew on me and now I enjoy the whole song, turtles and all.

Re: Leonard Cohen Holiday Album?

I’m thinking that Mr. Cohen would “Cohenize” the songs so that they’d be holiday songs but also genuine Leonard Cohen songs. “Silent Night” in the style of “If It Be Your Will” would capture the reverence of the song in a way that many Leonard Cohen songs are reverent. “Jingle Bells” in the style of...

Re: queen victoria

Queen Victoria is a profound song. I am a geneticist and I can relate to it for that reason. Queen Victoria staged the "Great Exhibition" in 1851 and built the crystal palace ("I feel like an empty cast iron exhibition") to house it. She is also the source of an X-chromosome-linked hemophilia mutati...

Leonard Cohen Holiday Album?

Every holiday season (Christmas/Hannukah) I hear holiday songs by John Lennon, Bruce Springstein, Elvis, Dylan, Jimmy Durante and many many more famous artists: although it sounds so out of character, I would be grateful for an album with Leonard Cohen's interpretations of of some of the classic hol...
