The Holy or the Broken

Hello. I searched for Alan Light and the title and did not see anything much, so forgive my lateness on this (published 2012), but here goes. I am only part-way in, but I see oddities which seem quite unfit for a book as well-researched as this. The first thing I happened to notice was that in the D...

Re: "Thanks for the dance" - the new album

Hello, all. I saw an interview recently in which Adam said he had called his father's music, mytho-romantic, to his father's consternation. Does anyone know what terms Leonard used to refer to his ouervre, and shed light on why he despised that characterization? Loving the new album; I hear differen...

Re: "Thanks for the dance" - the new album

I thought I did delete the entire review, so I am at a loss as how this apparently did not happen. Is it still there? I see three dots. When I made my previous post, it was still there, but I see that now it has been deleted. Thank you very much, Hal E. Lujah, it was very considerate of you to foll...

Re: "Thanks for the dance" - the new album

I thought I did delete the entire review, so I am at a loss as how this apparently did not happen. Is it still there? I see three dots. Anyway, I thought people might laugh at the oddity of this half-baked Kugelass. If it's still there, tell me where and I will again delete it; no need to give this ...

Re: "Thanks for the dance" - the new album

I agree. Kugelmass thought he was being profound. And who listens to Avalanche twice a day anyhow? Wish I hadn't posted it.

Re: "Thanks for the dance" - the new album

I think the positive one is better because it dealt with the complexity of the reversal of the goal falling short of the reach. The author of the poor review had found nothing profound in the album. He failed to see the Buddhist depth of those lines. Leonard remained true to his heart up right until...

Re: "Thanks for the dance" - the new album

Hi, all. I just read a very intriguing review of Thanks for the Dance, in The Beast. I read a very sour one as well. I think the positive one is better because it dealt with the complexity of the reversal of the goal falling short of the reach. The author of the poor review had found nothing profoun...

Re: Suicide?

I don't know if I am misreading this, or if something came out which I don't know about. I very much doubt this report. It is disconcerting to see this written at all. Many will read this and take it as the case, which is truly sad. No way LC would do that. Maybe I should call for a retraction.

Suicide?

Hi, all. I just read this idiocy in the NYTimes. Some author wrote that L. Cohen committed suicide, as I quote below: "Of course, if a suicide follows a completed work, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the work was made as a ‘‘final work,’’ in the way of ‘‘You Want It Darker.’’ Not all suicid...

Re: Leonard Has Passed Away

Thanks to all for your thoughtful, heartfelt comments. I have listened to the last work of LC non-stop all day for many days. It is all the more tragically touching to hear this man's final statements, so authentically. He is indeed a scholar of the soul, and always has been. I wish that the world w...

Re: Leonard Has Passed Away

There will never be another one like him. And a true gentleman. It is almost unbearable. I had hoped to have been able to have said a few words to him before he passed. If you are there, Leonard, please remember to look for me wherever you are.

Re: Leonard Has Passed Away

Can anyone confirm that the death was caused by a fall, a blow to the head, and that he died in his sleep?

Re: Leonard Cohen's health

I just finished reading all the sad posts about the demise, partly to convince myself it was true. I am glad he got to finish his final album: well done. He showed us how to live and how to die. He will never be forgotten, when all the rest are in the ash heap. He will last longer and burn brighter....
