Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Hi Vickie, That was good timing – I’ve just posted an image in Hartmut's thread after watching and listening to The Goal ;-) To my ears it's the same version as in the recent Book of Longing audio release but set to a musical background. Yes, I did do and say that about YWID album because I really t...

Re: September 21, 1934

I didn’t know if we were having a thread this year to commemorate Leonard’s birthday so that’s a good idea, Hartmut! I hope you don’t mind if I also join in here. I was just thinking about the theme for the new album and today after looking at the video for The Goal with its black background and emb...

Re: Leonard's Voice

I've recently read but can't remember where that someone said LC's voice is "like a velour foghorn" :)

And yes, I also confess I do favour his voice around the time that the Recent Songs album was released in 1979.

Re: Is Leonard on SiriusXM's Tom Morello's "One Man Revolution" tomorrow?

Vickie, it’s good to catch up with you! Glad you were able to listen to the programme. Nice to hear what Tom said about Leonard. I watched videos of those two songs you mentioned and I can see why he chose them. As you have already surmised, I do prefer the string one :) btw - if you want to discove...

Re: Is Leonard on SiriusXM's Tom Morello's "One Man Revolution" tomorrow?

Hi Vickie, If you go on the SiriusXM site and look at Lithium's lineup, it says that Morello's show will be about "darker songwriters & lyrics". Can anyone confirm if this will include Leonard?? I tried to find out if that was so and never discovered anything more than you did :) But that programme ...

Re: Democracy: Extra Verses

Hi Lennon, Welcome to the forum! and pamhule, if you are still around :) Besides all those extra verses quoted in LC Prologues including the one above, there is an unused line Leonard wrote for Democracy but I can't remember where or when it's from. He said that it referred specifically to Dylan’s s...

Re: Leonard Cohen's statue will be unveiled in Vilnius

Lisa, it's really OK to say what you think about this statue and I can see where you're coming from. It doesn't matter if anyone knows the technical aspects of art or not - they know how they feel and that really is what art should make people do. In my art studio I have had for many years two sayin...

Alan, I just had a look and found this at the Sydney Film Festival in June 2020 next year https://www.sff.org.au/program/browse/marianne-leonard-words-of-love but after searching further there this link says it's sold out! https://www.sff.org.au/program/a-z/?type=all&past=yes&q=Words%20of%20Love%20 ...

Re: Leonard and e e cummings

Hi Michel, This may help you a little bit. The first link - https://www.npr.org/2016/10/21/498810429/leonard-cohen-on-poetry-music-and-why-he-left-the-zen-monastery is an interview by NPR with Leonard in which he mentions E E Cummings. That excerpt is below and appears to confirm Leonard has read Cu...

Re: Which Notebooks Did Leonard Cohen Use?

Well spotted, Lisa 8) And it made me go and look at my copy of The Flame published 2018 which those two pages are in on page 246 and I discovered a couple of other interesting notebooks but unfortunately, no actual brand name. On page 221 with no date there are handwritten poems on squared grid or g...

Re: Which Notebooks Did Leonard Cohen Use?

Hi Laurier, Welcome to the forum! I remember Leonard saying he used all sorts of notebooks including the inexpensive ones from chain stores. He did like the small spiral ones that would comfortably fit into his pocket for easy access when inspiration came but I can't remember any specific brand. The...
