Re: Walking weekend in Yorkshire 2019

Our journey has begun! We are in Chicago where we had a great meal and we fly out tomorrow to Dublin, then on to Manchester. Don’t tell Anne, but I have upgraded us to Business Class for our flight to Dublin in honor of her birthday which is Wednesday. Phil, Ken booked our train and I think we leave...

Very nice, Jarkko! Also terrific photo of Leonard and you in California-I hadn't seen that before.

Re: Leonard Cohen's statue will be unveiled in Vilnius

I have to say I loved this statute the minute I saw it. It is so Leonard, the head lifted as if beseeching heaven, the lips slightly parted, the long thin neck, the ill-fitting suit, the hands clutched into fists and pulled towards the chest, and even the toes turned slightly inward. He is overflow...

Re: Marianne & Leonard: Words of Love, film by Nick Broomfield

I just returned from seeing the film. I enjoyed it very much, though as others have mentioned, there wasn't any new content. I particularly enjoyed the remarks made by Ron Cornelius as I've never seen an interview with him. What Cohen fan wouldn't love all the old film and interviews! I was particul...

Re: 'Angel of Lyon' Tom Russell

Anne & I were fortunate to see Tom at Fitzgerald's in Berwyn last Saturday night. He was joined on stage with Dave Alvin and Jimmy Dale Gilmore who had performed at Blues Fest earlier in the day. Here is Tom and Dave singing "Blue Wing" a song they wrote together. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zT1...

Re: Review of Jewish Museum Show A Crack in Everything

We returned last night from our trip to NYC to see the exhibit (with a side trip to Washington D.C.). I can only speak for myself but the trip was worth it in so many ways. The videos were the highlights for me-the first one with screens on three sides of the room is probably the best summation of a...

Anne & I along with my sister Jane saw Tom in Scottsdale, Arizona playing outdoors with Camelback Mountain in the background. It was a great concert. I'm anxious to get his new album.

Re: The Flame-discussion thread

I'm just catching up as I've been traveling for over a month. B4real and Mat, really enjoyed your comments (as I always do). It's been a while since I've looked through The Flame and I will again and make a few comments of my own. Brucester, I was a huge Kingston Trio fan growing up and in many ways...

Re: The Flame-discussion thread

It’s interesting you mention Yeats and Maude, maybe Leonard didn’t recognise his Maude, or saw her too late, or the timing wasn’t right? Then again, work and relationships are a tricky thing, time spent with Maude is time away from writing that love song, the one that will be an anthem of forgiving...

Re: The Flame-discussion thread

Henning, please practice and have it ready for the Walking Weekend! I love that poem. Cihan, sorry that you are disappointed by it. I feel that it, like much of Yeats late work is spare and devoid of some of the lyricism of his earlier work, but very genuine, very heartfelt and effective. Most of th...

Re: Matters of Vital Interest: A Forty-Year Friendship with Leonard Cohen

Diane, I recently finished it and concur completely with you that it was an excellent read. It is so different from biography or interview or magazine profile. It is very apparent that there was genuine affection between the two of them. I highly recommend this book also.
