Re: Mercy Now -Kathy Mattea

Hello again Kush,

What a sad but beautiful song and video. Thank you for posting it. I always associate Kathy Mattea with '455 Rocket' and still listen to that song occasionally. Slightly different from 'Mercy Now.'

Re: 'Angel of Lyon' Tom Russell

Thanks for that, Kush. How could I forget that when I have the cd?! It brings us nicely back to Tom Russell again.

Re: 'Angel of Lyon' Tom Russell

Further to my previous post I have just remembered that there is another song by Marty Robbins associated with his El Paso story. Here it is. The whole set of songs makes an interesting group.

Re: 'Angel of Lyon' Tom Russell

Hello Kush, Thanks for the links. I had completely forgotten about Marty Robbins singing 'Tonight Carmen'. I have always enjoyed listening to him. In fact I still have 'Devil Woman' on an old 45 and I also have his 'Gunfighter Ballads' LP. The scenery shown in the second song is beautiful. One of my...

Re: 'Angel of Lyon' Tom Russell

Hello Kush,

I am hoping Dave Alvin will get over here before too long. Talking of Juarez here is another song about it by Gene Watson whom I feel is a vastly underrated singer.

I was actually at this show.

Re: Mary Chapin Carpenter - The Things we are Made Of

Hello Kush, Thanks for those Mary Chapin Carpenter links. I have got a number of her CDs from the 1990s but haven't got round to listening to them for a while. I got the impression that she seemed to have a lower profile in the early part of this century. I have not seen her in a live concert yet. I...

I remember Barbara from the LC chatroom. She was always friendly, humorous and knowledgeable. May she rest in peace.

Always Drive a Cadillac. The Everly Brothers.

A little known song from the Everly Brothers. The lyrics and arrangement are marvellous.

Re: Black Rose of Texas - Dave Alvin

Thanks for the links, Kush. I am sure that it will not surprise you that I have already seen them. I really enjoy listening to his music. I hope you manage to get to his concert. Maybe he will let slip if he is going to be in the UK at any time in the near future.

Re: WOMAD 2018

Hello Diane, Things are certainly quieter here nowadays. I suppose that it is only to be expected in some ways. A lot of the regular posters no longer contribute. I always enjoy reading this section though. It is a shame that Stephen has stopped posting but I always enjoy reading what people have to...

Re: Ed Bruce - The Devil Inside

Hello Kush, That was very funny. I don't know how they both managed to keep a straight face during the exchange. I suspect it may have been edited as both of them at times look as if they are doing their best not to burst out laughing. It reminds me of some of the 'Pink Panther' films with Peter Sel...

Re: Ed Bruce - The Devil Inside

Hello Kush, Texas Homecare, according to Wikipedia, was a Do It Yourself company which operated in the United Kingdom in the last quarter of the twentieth century. I cannot remember seeing the advert as I have limited ambitions in that area! Your story about the 'Japanese' restaurant made me laugh. ...
