Re: You know who I am (Songs From A Room)

“Joan of Arc, an uneducated peasant woman, about 18 years old, answers: "Si je n’y suis, que Dieu m’y mette. Si j’y suis, que Dieu m’y garde." (If I'm not in it, may God put me there. If I'm in it, may God keep me there.)… Joan of Arc has access to her real position. She does not put herself above ...

"...grazing the impossible..."
:)
What a great phrase/description of our attempts to understand those "big questions".
I am savouring you efforts V.
Thanks.

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's poetry and novels

Hi V, It's kind of like the conversation some of us had in the other thread when we were talking about the danger of trying to over analyze Leonard's songs, and that it was like "cutting open the blackbird's throat to see what makes it sing". Psychology feels a bit to me like cutting open our brains...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's poetry and novels

the night was soft as ashes that a moth leaves on your thumb. ...love it..., thanks for the highlight, V. A week or so ago I finished a book on "The origins and history of consciousness" by Erich Neumann (perhaps Jung's most gifted acolyte) . Great book though very heavy...it basically explains and...

Re: You know who I am (Songs From A Room)

This song, "You know who I am", in my opinion, is closely related to the two other songs I am looking at (lately) on the Darker album, namely 'Traveling Light' and 'If I didn't have your love'. On the 'transcendental' level the singer/writer is viewing the meaning of life and love from 'various posi...

Re: If I didn't have your love (You Want It Darker)

...sure it's a love song; and it's more. The 'more' that always transcends... If I Didn't Have Your Love If the sun would lose its light And we lived an endless night And there was nothing left That you could feel That’s how it would be My life would seem to me If I didn’t have your love To make it ...

If I didn't have your love (You Want It Darker)

https://www.poetseers.org/spiritual-and-devotional-poets/christian/teresa-of-avila/prayers-and-works/would/index.html "If I didn't have your love..." 'I would cease to be...' Take a look at the link above. I suggest that this is the lady (and the poem) who inspired this deeply beautiful song of Leon...

Re: Traveling Light, with Leonard

St. Teresa of Avila is about to spill her beans on this "Darker" space. https://www.poetseers.org/spiritual-and-devotional-poets/christian/teresa-of-avila/prayers-and-works/would/index.html or, If I didn't have your love... to make it real. And now, back to his window while Leonard listens to this L...

Re: Traces Left Behind

hi Jimmy, I enjoyed your take on the moment in time. Your shrouded, vestured imagery brings an element of the divine into play...and then the ambivalent cast of fellow walkers, oblivious to his presence... I really like the poem. The more I read it, the more it took me...there! ...to a western (Iris...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's poetry and novels

Hi V, "Kiss me with your teeth." I see a big, open smile, warm and appreciative of the person in its view. But I don't know the context in which the line was spoken, not having read the book. I'm not going to read these books you have chosen, either. I'll take the passive, ignorant approach. I am go...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's poetry and novels

hi vlcoats, strangely enough, I haven't read any of Leonard Cohen's books though I participated in the Book Of Mercy threads. And that was great fun and I learnt a lot from other forum members and put in my own 2 bob's worth also and discovered much in the process. I love his songs and just got stuc...

Thanks Diane.

Who is "We"?
I only hear "I". ;-)
I will get back to this thread eventually, though when I re-read it, it seems to me that much of what I wanted to say, has been said.

Merry Christmas to you too. I always appreciate knowing you are reading my Mind.

"Under the same roof We all slept together, Concubines and I _ Bush-clovers and the moon." (Basho, From his haibun book, "Narrow Road to the Deep North",( or inner self). Basho, the Japanese poet, 1644-1694, stayed in a paper thin hotel and listened to the laments of two young girls who were transie...
