Re: Treaty
“I believe I saw your baby smile at mine If that don’t make you crazy nothing will” Wow that one hit me all over. This is it. Every time I see other verses or versions I wish I had access to the thousands of pages Mr. Cohen blackened with verse as he led up to his finished product. Thanks to all for...

Treaty
As a realtively seasoned Cohenite, I can safely say that “Treaty” is now among my top 3, dare I say my favourite. What a treat(y). This song has helped me to get through, along with “on the level.” A hell of a year, with addictions and a lost, loved mistress (thank god), 55 lb weight loss (also good...

Re: CONCERT REPORT: Montreal,Quebec - November 28th & 29th,2
I was blown away by his homecoming in 2008, and have been looking forward to tonight since the spring. I was expecting an awesome experience, but wasn't expecting to be blown away again. Long story short--I bought front row seats for tomorrow night when I got home. This is some show.

Re: queen victoria
This one takes a while to grow on you. However, it's become one of my favorites from live songs. The lyrics are great. The last verse is pretty powerful. I bet it'd sound a lot better now if he recited it in his low baritone like he did "A thousand kisses deep" on his tour this year. It's ...

Re: MONTREAL (JUNE 23-25)
By far my favorite concert ever was seeing Cohen live in Toronto 2 weeks ago. Now there's another leader, by far. There's basically three words that will inspire rich jealousy in those who weren't there and have left those who were there with blabber-mouthed giddyness. I would've been happy with an ...

Re: MONTREAL (JUNE 23-25)
As much as we've heard about the similarity between shows, I can't help but feel that the hometown crowd is going to mean something special for Mr. Cohen. The venue itself is a ten minute walk from "our lady of the harbour" and about 15 minutes from his current Montreal residence. 6 years ...

Re: Looking for the YOUNGEST first-time listener to LC
Woops! I still have 4 questions to answer! (2) How much did you understand of the sexual/violence references? With as much clarity and ignorance as I understood them now. (3) How did hearing these lyrics cause you to feel? Pretty jealous. I stopped listening to Chelsea Hotel until I got ---- myself....

Re: Looking for the YOUNGEST first-time listener to LC
15 years old, on the way to my first driving school class in my friend's car, when I heard him sing along to strange deep lyrics on his tapedeck: "like the shy one at some orgy." What a great simile! I was hooked. It's been another 15 years, but long as I've sought to fully understand this...

Re: Toronto (June 6 to 9)
"Wither thou goest, I will go," is actually also a lyric in the obscure Cohen song "The ballad of the absent mare," which my old college roommate and I managed to find on Napster several years ago. The same roomie (also my best man, and me his) was with me on Saturday night in To...

Re: Who is travelling the longest?
Anyone coming to Montreal this summer needn't worryabout english/french, or anything at all. We're just 8 inches shy of our all-time record for snowfall in a winter, and people are shovelling in front of their living room windows just to see out. Part of what makes our summers great is having to put...

Ins and Outs of Montreal
Here's a few practical details I posted earlier for visitors to this wonderful, wonderful city: First off, everyone in the service industry speaks English. Montreal won't let you down, but it gets pricey near the jazzfest. You'll pay 100-200+ per night at a decent hotel, but this is a bargain compar...

Re: montreal stay
Sorry, I forgot your practical questions: There's a shuttle bus that costs $16 that takes you from the Airport to the downtown Bus stations with 2 stops at hotels (takes about a half hour). Cabs charge a fixed rate from the Airport to downtown $35. ($40 with tip, I guess). Cabs here are plentiful an...

Montreal won't let you down, but it gets pricey near the jazzfest. You'll pay 100-200 per night at a decent hotel, but this is a bargain compared to most big cities in North America. You'll see a hill towards the North: head up the hill on any of the parallel streets onto the "Plateau". He...

Re: TORONTO SOLD OUT------THREE MINUTES AFTER PUBLIC SALE !!!!
Thanks so much for the heads up! I was buying for myself and 3 friends, but had to call them to tell them bad news this morning. Now, we're all going to the Saturday show! But, where the heck is "Standing Room?" I spoke with my Mother-in-law, who goes to that theatre regularly, and she say...
