Re: Those Were The Days - Liam Clancy

Thanks for sending me on a little youtube tour, Karren. Rosanne Cash does have a beautiful voice. I just heard her Pancho and Lefty (by TVZ)...and that led me to another live version of same by Willie Nelson, with Bob Dylan - nice to see him respecting the boot-prints on his coffee table: https://ww...

Re: Gregory Alan Isakov

Bev, I always admire you for your impressive collection and dispersion of LC-related information. That GAI was touched deeply by LC's death and that he wrote several songs on the new album in response is fascinating to know. I am slow (it's not because I'm old ;-)), and even The Flame is smouldering...

Thank you, Bev, for the head's up on the new album! Also for the quotes you copied.
I like songs that take you someplace. Make you drunk for a second.

Re: WOMAD 2018

Checking for the original of a song covered by the Bollywood Brass Band with Rafaqat Ali Khan, I came across Chaiyya Chaiyya, a song/scene from the 1998 movie Dil Se. Written by Gulzar, sung by Sukhwinder Singh and Sapna Awasthi. Interestingly it is adapted from a Sufi poem. You've got to love the j...

Beautiful. "She" was on the airwaves several times each week throughout my childhood and that song feels like a thread in the fabric of early memories. Nice to hear the French songs. RIP.

Re: Those Were The Days - Liam Clancy

Are these still the days? Nice one Tony, and Karren - I especially enjoyed Fiddler's Green. On the sea theme, another stirring one I just found from Clancy, the Phil Coulter song Home From the Sea https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGwW2N51kK8 Speaking of Irish legends, I have tix to see Finbar Furey i...

Re: WOMAD 2018

Hello Tony! Yes, I have thus far been too lazy to join the many other places that have opened up since early forum days. As I've said before, there are a few amazing artists I'd never have known about/gigs I'd have missed, had I not listened to you guys. I check the links here from time to time, whe...

Hello Kush, nice to see you. This music section, if not much of the Forum, has become a bit of a ghost town... all the more interesting for the odd things passing through.

WOMAD 2018

Some of the gems from this year's world music WOMAD festival in Wiltshire, England: The Bombay Brass Band - fan-bloody-tastic, could have stood in front of them forever. They were doing their own interpretations for old Bollywood films. They have a couple of upcoming gigs in Cambridge and London: ht...

He had a blue wing tattooed on his shoulder Well, it might have been a bluebird, I don't know... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgLWE-HLw1o As a post script to the mentions of Blue Wing, recently I saw this poem by Charles Bukowski, and thought it might have been another influence: there's a blueb...

“I always wanted to be better than anyone else. Cohen and Dylan may be above me in the tower of song but from my own generation I’ll take any of them on. Let them beat this.” Mike Scott about "Out of all This Blue", the most recent album. Going by the knock-out, sonically stunning show in Cardiff on...

Two poems by Adyashanti

If you prefer smoke over fire then get up now and leave. For I do not intend to perfume your mind's clothing with more sooty knowledge. No, I have something else in mind. Today I hold a flame in my left hand and a sword in my right. There will be no damage control today. For God is in a mood to plun...
