Re: Bob Dylan at the London O2
I saw Dylan last night in Edinburgh. This was my 3rd time seeing him, the last time being over 10 years ago and I knew his interpretations of his songs could be wilful at times. I took along a friend who was seeing him for the first time and I was slightly nervous- would this be a good or a bad nigh...

Re: NPR podcast of Beacon Theatre show, available from Feb 26
Just downloaded this, my first ever podcast! This will keep me going until the Live CD is out and will be one to keep forever, especially hearing Chelsea Hotel and the Partisan which won't be on that CD. And the 1000 kisses deep recitation moved me to tears again, same as last summer. Thank you to L...

Re: Hallelujah on UK X-Factor (all threads merged here)
Yes, I must agree, Bono's version has to be relegated to the "Total garbage" section. A cover that seems totally lacking in any sensitivity to the meaning of the song and which seems to be striving to be different just for the sake of it. Certainly much much worse than Leonard's original w...

Re: Campaign: Get Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah in the UK charts!
As per usual of course, John Cale's original and excellent cover version does not get a mention, here. I'm not sure if this may be the reason or not John, but I've found it rather difficult to buy the John Cale version as a download. I looked a while ago and it was not available on i-Tunes or Play....

Re: MOJO and UNCUT magazines
Excellent articles in both magazines, but the album review section in Mojo threw up one big surprise. In the start rating given to each album, "The Future" was given 3 stars along with "Death of a Ladies Man", the lowest rating of any of the studio albums. Now I know these star r...

Re: Reappraised LC songs in light of the current tour
Until last Wednesday's concert at Edinburgh, I also had a tendency to undervalue "Anthem". I thought it was stunning last week, and I can't get the "killers in high places say their prayers out loud" out of my head. "A Thousand Kisses Deep" was incredibly moving, but th...

Re: Terrible T-shirts. Scotland or the world?
Yes, I was at the sublime Edinburgh concert as well, and bought one of the "Tour Dates" T shirts. Being a slightly fuller figure than I used to be, I thought a Large would be OK for me, but they had sold out of those (who comes to Scotland with an inadequate supply of Large T shirts??), so...

Re: Complete Hallelujah Lyrics
In an interview in the magazine "The Word" (July 07) Leonard was asked what had been the longest gestation period for one of his songs. "Hallelujah was at least five years. I have about 80 verses for it." And later. "I just took the six verses out of the many that establish ...

Re: The first note - how you found LC and how it affected you
1985. I was working in Canada for a year and on the night in question, after a few beers, was feeling homesick. I was alone in a bar which had a TV in the corner playing music videos- I guess MTV. Most mid 80s music left me cold- I felt there was a blandness to much of the music unlike the music of ...

Re: Edinburgh July 16th
Never having seen LC live before, I confess I was rather anxious when I joined the massive queue to get in on Wednesday. Would the performance live up to expectations? Would his voice be good enough?? I needn't have worried. This was one of the finest concerts I have ever attended. His singing was s...
