Re: Find, sell or swap tickets here

Hi all,
I'm selling my ticket to the Helsingborg concert (July 3) for 65€. I've got it in PDF format so I can send it via email.

All the best,

Tom, you´re right about the translation in the booklet of Recent Songs. I´ve owned the cd for almost two years now and I´ve never bothered to read the booklet too carefully. It´s mainly because I knew the lyrics more or less by heart, having studied the sheet music before purchasing the cd. K...

Tom, thank you very much for the translation of "Un Canadien Errant". I only have a rudimentary knowledge of French, so those lyrics have always baffled me. Of all the songs on "Recent Songs", "Un Canadien Errant" used to be the one I´d always skip but it was interesting to learn that the melody of ...

FINNISH TABLOID JOHNNY KNIGA GIVES "DH" 4-/5

Here´s my translation of a short and sweet review I found in Johnny Kniga . It´s a small tabloid you can pick up for free at Finnish bookstores and libraries. The review sounds a bit rushed but that´s probably because the author was so immersed in the album that he forgot about his deadline... :wink...

You´re right about the oud, Tom. I´m ashamed to say I didn´t bat an eyelid when the bouzouki was mentioned...

"DEAR HEATHER" PRAISED IN HELSINGIN SANOMAT

Here´s my translation of the Helsingin Sanomat review. Old news I know but I didn´t get to translate it earlier. Enjoy! Personally, I don´t like the "staccato" rhythm so often seen in newspaper articles. The writer seems knowledgeable enough, though, in that she mentions Rebecca. As for Nico inspiri...

Thanks Lizzytysh. I study translation and interpretation of English and Swedish and translating these reviews is excellent practice. The Soundi and Rumba reviews took me about on hour each to do. I kid you not - normally, I have to spend much more time on any given text. Must have been the inspiring...

Jarkko, I´d be more than happy to translate the HS article. I don´t have it handy so please post it to me.

FINNISH ROCK TABLOID RUMBA GIVES "DH" 4 STARS OUT

Another triumph for Leonard. :D Here is my translation. Karri LEONARD COHEN: Dear Heather (SONY/COLUMBIA) * * * * The master delves into his old themes with more fragile brush-strokes than before Dear Heather sounds like a diary. While Cohen´s previous albums boasted clearly defined themes, painstak...

Oops, I almost forgot... I love "Undertow" as well. It has some of the elegance of, say, "Take This Waltz". The sax sounds awfully live, as opposed to the more "plastic" sax sound heard on "Ten New Songs". If memory serves, Leonard was credited as the main musician on this song? Just wondering about...

I have been listening to DH for a couple of weeks now and it´s definitely a grower. Let me start at the top: "The Faith" is an instant classic. It has that lush "Recent Songs" feel, due no doubt to the instrumentation. "The Letters" is beautifully modulated, in terms of both the narrative and the co...

Most of the stuff Prince has put out for the last ten years has left me unimpressed ("Emancipation" notwithstanding). "Musicology", in particular was a major disappointment. That is not to say I don´t revere his early stuff, up to the early 90´s. To me, Prince remains one of true musical geniuses of...

The only thing that pisses me off about LC is his laziness in terms of output. I mean, when you look at the "blackening pages" section, certainly there´s stuff enough for a couple of albums that would have fit somewhere between "The Future" and "Ten New Songs". :x I wasn´t interested in Cohen at the...

Thanks, Lizzytysh, I´m glad you appreciate my translation. :D I was in a bit of a hurry typing it so I´m afraid my comment in the end was worded a bit misleadingly. The thing I found weird about the original writer´s mention of the jew´s harp was the fact that he used the English term, rather than t...

OK, here´s a rough translation of the Soundi review. "On his latest offering, Leonard Cohen refines the mood set by "Ten New Songs" (2001), in no way attempting to conceal his image as a mature ladies´ man and an expert on love. "Dear Heather" is strictly for nighttime listening and intended to be e...
