Canada triumphant on world cycling stage

Postby david birkett on Tue May 29, 2012 3:39 pm

Sorry if I'm re-threading old ground, but, for the first time, there has been a Canadian winner of the 3-week cycling stage race, the Giro d'Italia. Although less prestigious and famous than its French counterpart, the Giro is notorious for embracing the steepest climbs, the most unpaved roads and generally inflicting insane demands on its participants, so chapeau to Ryder Hesjedal.

Hi David--
This is a huge accomplishment for the Canadian cyclist --and will bring cycling to Canada in a way never before seen.
Hats off indeed to Ryder Hesjedal who has become a Canadian folk hero although many are not yet aware.

that would seem to be the real deal... the most opportunities for things to go wrong or badly... the most challenging for the riders

That would be in between his cleaning of the Augean stables and proving the Riemann Hypothesis.
