Postby DanClaffey on Thu May 17, 2012 9:11 am

Hello Cohen Fans. My name is Dan Claffey, I live in Los Angele's CA. 3 weeks ago I realized that I had close to 200 handwritten lyrics and sheet music dated 1961-1974 in this resent discovery is 5 note books it's m belief that at least 2 are Leonard Cohen's. They are filled with his handwritten notes about Bird a Wire, Morning has Broken and 3-4 other songs. He wrote "MY SONGS" on one page with a heart next to it and signed it July 16th 1972. The note Books are made by BASILDON AIR MAIL the paper is white with blue ink. He also had wrote That's no way to say goodbye" on 3 small stationary sheets from the LondDerry Hotel coffee shop Le Pelican. One of his back up singers for the Europe Tour- Donna Washburn picked it up and it was locked away for 40 years.
I anyone can identify Leonard's hand writing i email you images...Feedback

Best

And of course you can email any photographs/images/scans of the note books to maarten.massa@pandora.be for further inspection :-)

I always thought Gordon Lightfoot had written 'Morning has Broken'.

Actually, the lyrics are from a hymn by Eleanor Farjeon, and the familiar tune was written by Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam (I listened to a lot of Cat Stevens in my teens!).

The tune is actually called Bunessan and it was written by Mary MacDonald of Bunessan on the island of Mull as we found out when we visited Bunessan for a concert
a few years ago. I sang it at school long before Cat Stevens thought of recording it!

My remark was meant as a joke - and as a hint that the song certainly wasn't written by LC ...
