Hi all,

I forgot to say the name of the song is Tar and Cement in English but I reckon you all know that by now.

Karren,
Glad to give you something new! I don't have a hugh record collection but I do have all of the last few songs! They have a certain flavour which appeals to me. :)

pe,
Lovely to hear from you again. Special songs do that don't they - bring back memories of time, place, smell and people.

Here is a link for all the different artists etc referring to that last song :

and lonndubh,
wherever you are - your turn to give us all some more memories in song. 8)

I'd be tender, I'd be gentle
And awful sentimental
Regarding love and art
I'd be friends with the sparrows
And the boy that shoots the arrows

If I Only Had A Heart ?

I think thats what it's called
'Love is just a word until someone comes along and gives it meaning.'

'Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, but for those who love, time is eternity.'

"i'd be tender, i'd be gentle

"

thanks, karren b, for the hint :
if i only had a heart, that's the tin man, from the wizard of oz.
this line re-animated some old, long forgotten moments,
and some other old memories came back, so, perhaps i speak before its my turn, but here's a new song,

... and we'll discover highs
we never knew before,
if we just close our eyes,
and dance around the floor

the singer is "not very young", and he's not singing in english, originally, but i think the "not so very young" among us, may know him, and i hope the "younger" may get to know him.

Is it Charles Aznavour DANCE IN THE OLD FASHIONED WAY?

The not so young clue gave it away.

Know this song?

Tried to give you consolation
Your old man let you down
Like a fool I fell in love with you
You turned my whole world upside down

By someone more well known for something else than his singing.
Somebody must have died for you
A Thousand Kisses Deep

goodnight, lightasabreeze,

that's the one : charles aznavour, another long-time favourite : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7qyMBDDjvU

in my head, he had faded away a little bit, untill some months ago, when i saw him singing together with a young french singer, fabien marsaud, also known as "grand corps malade". this one has the kind of voice, that has almost the same attraction to me, as Leonard Cohen's voice : deep, strong, and warm, and on top af that, he makes songs that mean something, "words that mobilise", as some other heavenly voices would say.
this is their duet ; it's great to see this 86-year young perform with a young rising star : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONmRMPXYtq4

this is a song that explains why this young man is less "mobile" than his old friend http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxzUCFwx52A&feature=related

i hope these links may bring this voice to some more listeners ; i absolutely adore the voice and the words

pe
(
i think i know your singer, indeed more famous for an other instrument, than his voice, but i'll leave it to someone else)

So its my turn again

And here it is

The rose upon the briar
And the clouds that float so high
Bring joy to the linnet and the bee
And their little hearts are blessed
But mine can know no rest
Since my true love is far away from me

And straight I will repair
To the Curragh of Kildare
For it's there I'll finds tidings of my dear

Curragh Of Kildare...Christy Moore does a version but some of the words are different so not sure whose version this is?
