L.C. Song Hunt

Post by Steven »

Hi,

There's a line in a L.C. song that relates to someone who had an internal lack; that person sought to remedy
the situation by doing something externally oriented. Who, if anyone, will identify the song and sublime
line that I've in mind?

7. I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though it all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

If this is the required quote, it is the final verse of Hallelujah.

Hi,

Thinking of a song that has a full charge of emotional content and little, if any, art-detracting sentimentality.
Can you identify the one I'm thinking of? Of course, these attributes aren't unique to the song.

Could be almost anything- but I'll go for Banjo, as powerful and pared down.

'There's something that I'm watching, means a lot to me.
It's a broken banjo bobbing on a dark infested sea.

Don't know how it got there, prob'ly taken by the waves
Off of someone's shoulder, or out of someone's grave.

It's coming for me darling, no matter where I go.
Its duty is to harm me, my duty is to know.'

Hi AlexandraLaughing,

Wasn't "Banjo," though that song fits the bill. :) It was "Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye."

Hi,

This next song may contain a reflection of a combination of high work ethic and self-deprecation on the
part of L.C. Hint: specific lyrics are key here.

Hi,

Alright, put another way, there's a puritanical component to particular lyrics of this song and L.C.
as a song character is not the one expressing it. This should now be easier.

I never saw this thread Steven; although I see 600 people did! Keep it up and I'll be back. (O, geez, that's some strange phrasing.)

This section of "The Stranger Song"

Please understand, I never had a secret chart

Nope that doesn't work. I'll try again tomorrow. More hints?

I think whoever gets the answer should take the burden off of you and be "it".

Hi Dar,

Okay, here's another hint: The particular lines are most likely those of God as a character
in the song.

If it's a song in "Ten New Songs" or "Dear Heather" I don't know those albums. I'm so old school Cohen it's ridiculous.

Is it in an early or late album?
