Yes, wonderful Willy and Wybe!
(aside of the great fotos I especially liked the Serrallonga Song at the start)
It cannot be said better than Bea did: Thank you for being our memory!

Dear Wybe and Willy,

Thank you so very much for posting all the beautiful photos and for including the video snippets. I greatly appreciated beem able to be there vicariously because of the time and effort you took to post this. Maybe someday we will be able to join all of you for a non-walking ;-) weekend....

Affectionate regards,

Thank you Eija & Jarkko!

Some of the scenery is so amazingly surreal. It is wonderful to see everyone enjoying themselves. All your photos gave me a sense of almost being there.

The 5th Leonard Cohen Walking Weekend: BALATON 2017

September 28 – October 01, 2017, organized & Hosted by Szilvia Szanto

It’s time to start making plans for the next Walking Weekend!

Barmouth 2009. Haiger 2011. Galway 2013. Viladrau 2015.

Now I am proud to announce and invite you to our 5th Walking Weekend: Balaton in Hungary in Fall 2017.

Our Weekend gathering has a limit of 50 participants. If we get more reservations than 50, the extra names will be put on a wait-list.

We are going to BADACSONY in KALI BASIN (Kali medence), one of the most attractive natural parks in the BALATON UPLANDS (Balaton felvidek).

In late September/early October the area of Balaton Uplands is most beautiful: it’s harvest time, and we can find ripe walnuts, almonds, black, sweet blackberries in the forest edges... there is always more sunshine than in the other parts of Hungary (thanks to the cloud-steering effect of mountains).

It's about 170 km from Budapest, and we will have a private bus from and to Budapest. The departure will be 4 pm on Thursday afternoon. The drive to Badacsony takes about 2+ hours. The bus will be at our disposal for the whole weekend.

Friday will be a nice walking day; we go between medieval ruins and traditional villages and gentle landscapes; Saturday a bit harder hike (but not too hard) on 300-400 m high volcanic hills with beautiful viewpoints. During the walks we will stop for some snack/lunch/wine tasting.

On Sunday we are driving to Tihany, a beautiful peninsula with a famous Benedictine abbey. Later the bus will take us back to Budapest. After that it’s up to you how long you’ll be staying in Budapest; you also have to book your accommodation individually for Sunday night.

It was difficult to find a nice hotel in Badacsony, big enough for 50 members, but finally a perfect location was found: Hotel Bonvino. Their list price is around 120 eur per room (the list price varies from room to room) but we have a special group rate of 28.000 HUF/per night (about 90 euros) for a double room, and 20.300 HUF (about 65 euros) for the single room. Tourist tax is 450 HUF (1,50 eur) /night/person. We will spend three nights in the same hotel. Hotel Bonvino has 48 rooms, and the whole hotel is now reserved for us. Read more about the hotel at http://hotelbonvino.hu/en/

A very rich breakfast with local and organic specialities is included in the price, and so is unlimited use of the wellness area and WIFI.

Everybody has to book the hotel him/herself by emailing them at info@hotelbonvino.hu with names of the guests. Remember to mention that you belong to the Leonard Cohen Group. The hotel wants to have your reservation on January 31 latest. They will ask a 15 % deposit. Cancellation is free until 60 days prior to the happening. They will confirm your reservation by email, and let you know how to pay the deposit.

Here are some links:

Tihany: http://www.tihanyinfo.com/en/Tihany.html, video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2hsOUqJsWw

And what about other additional costs? Dinner at the hotel is about 15-20 euros (probably we will have dinners there on Thursday and Saturday)

Other costs: daily lunch/snack/dinner/wine tasting about 10 euros each, so if we do three of those it will be 30 euros. Professional guide 15-20 euros/person. The bus will cost about 30 euros/person (if we have 50 participants) for four days. We go from Budapest to Badacsony on Thursday afternoon by bus, and back to Budapest on Sunday evening. So a tentative participation fee might be around 80 euros/person which will be collected in advance. Plus accommodation and two dinners (these both will be paid to the hotel). The exact amount will be confirmed as soon as possible.

If you want to be among those 50 lucky Weekenders, send NOW your email to me at szantoszilvia@hotmail.com

Looking forward to seeing you in Hungary next year!

Dear Friends
I have received today more than 200 emails and have not been able to answer, yet. Will try to do it during the weekend.

Several of you have asked if there will be changes in our Event/Meetup/Walking Weekend plans.
The answer is NO.

We will meet on Hydra next June, and have the Walking Weekend in the Fall 2017 in the Balaton lake district, followed by our next big Event in Budapest in 2018.

Leonard has left us but we have his music and poetry. Our get-togethers will bring us back together and give us chance to treasure all those beautiful memories.

Jarkko, I didn't write you an e-mail - because I didn't want to bother you during these times. But you were on my mind, and I hope - as probably all of us do - that you had an opportunity to say goodbye to Leonard.

Edit: Not implying, of course, that other forum members had the intention of bothering you ... :-)
