September 18th there will be a tribute concert in Amsterdam in the small but beautiful "Kleine Komedie" theater.
Henk Hofstede, former lead singer from The Nits and founder of the Avalanche Quartet will be performing songs of Cohen in Dutch. Those of us who have been to The Amsterdam Event last year will remember the sublime performance of the Avalanche Quartet.

This concert was yesterday in Amsterdam in a very nice venue “De Kleine Komedie” . 2 years ago Henk Hofstede ( Nits / Avalanche quartet) did ask an group of people who are more or less know in the Netherlands for there song writing to choose one of Leonards songs and translate them to Dutch and perform them live at this evening..
A very treacherous path one would think and I kept low expectations. But I have tot say that is was a wonderful performance and the Avalanche Quartet and all those who performed that night were at there best. Very good translations into Dutch without losing the essence of the original lyrics. Also the atmosphere in the “Kleine Komedie” was very good, it was sold out and the public fully appreciated what was presented to them. A special treat was that Remco Campert ( a very well know and appreciated writer and poet) read some of the poems that he translated in Dutch around 1970 after he met Leonard. At (almost) 88 years of age he stole the hearts of the crowd with his beautiful recitation.

Al in all it was an evening very well spend, one would wish they made a CD of it! Below an review in de Dutch Newspaper “Het Parool” about this concert. Fortunately they agree that is was also very good so no further translations is required ;-)
