LEONARD COHEN KOANS - Australian dates

Post by alikatis »

hello friends, this is ali of ali & the thieves :) i hope everyone is as well as can be.

just writing to let you know that ali & the thieves are ALL TOGETHER IN AUSTRALIA (!!!) and playing a few Leonard Cohen Koan dates in April and May as follows:

SATURDAY 29TH APRIL - Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre (Bathurst, NSW) - https://www.bmec.com.au/leonard-cohen-koans.html

FRIDAY 5TH MAY - Bega Valley Civic Centre (Bega, NSW) - http://www.begaciviccentre.com.au/what-s-on

SATURDAY 6TH MAY - The Music Lounge, Town Hall Wollongong (Wollongong, NSW) - http://merrigong.com.au/shows/ali-the-t ... koans.html

this time, we also have a couple of little 'side shows' in smaller venues, just daryl and i performing on an ultra intimate scale - we're calling those shows 'Leonard Cohen Kaos', and will actually try out some new arrangements, including new poetry and prose selections! its a nod to the beginnings of our collaboration on this project back in 2009, when we performed a series of 'work in progress' shows giving control to the audience to select songs and prose from a hat. it was wonderful then, and we are looking forward to those shows this time, too. those dates are:
TUESDAY 25TH APRIL - The Agrestic Grocer (Orange, NSW) - https://www.facebook.com/theagresticgrocer/
THURSDAY 27TH APRIL - The Oxley Wine Bar (Cowra, NSW) - https://www.facebook.com/TheOxleyWineBar/

SOME MORE EXCITING NEWS is that we are finally going to record our arrangements of Leonard's work later this year! This is my first public announcement of the recording project - i'm really excited to announce this here with you first. Over the 7 years that we have been playing this show, I have had the very good fortune to meet a great many of you in Sydney, Dublin, and New York. Even more fortunately, some of those I've met have become friends. My heart is grateful, and it feels very fitting that you are the first to know about our recording project :)

I plan to blog about our tour and recording project online, via:
our facebook page "ali & the thieves" https://www.facebook.com/aliandthethieves/
and most likely on our website, too, which is http://aliandthethieves.com/
if you would like to be on our mailing list for the more personal updates, or just want to say hi, please drop us a line via the contact page on the website.

wishing everyone light,
ali hughes

Good luck with concerts Ali - I was fortunate to watch you in Dublin in 2014 and hope to have the chance to witness the magic you do with Cohen's songs some time in the future again!

Hard to imagine you singing in the cold when we are having such a nice spring here in Dublin. I met with my band yesterday as we are also practicing for a gig coming up next week - I was telling them how much I LOVED your version of "Dance me to the end of Love" - how did you come up with that sort of "incantation" mood? It really was hypnotic and brought out a new beauty in the poem- "both of us beneath our love, both of us above" sung so high really gave the impression that the poem was floating out there ....Good luck for Sunday - and if you are thinking of Coming to Dublin while in the UK in June do let us know!
