"No Way to Say Goodbye..." - Corner Brook, Newfoundland

Post by Adrian »

This month, in the snowy heart of Canadian Winter, artists and the community of Corner Brook, NL, all gathered their warmth for “No Way to Say Goodbye…” – a loving tribute to the buckskin boy who’s uplifted our world through words and music, the bard Leonard Cohen.

Both shows – on January 14 and 15, 2017 – sold-out at the city’s Rotary Arts Centre. Actor/writer, director/producer Ruth Lawrence organized the dates to each include readings of Cohen’s poems together with 16 song performances by a wonderful array of musical and literary talent: Allison Crowe; Bay of Islands Sunday Session (Ivan Emke, Tom Boland, Leah Sing, Brian Beck, Keelan Purchase); Bridget & Dahlia (Swift/Waller); Daniel Payne; Emma Peckford; Gary & Whit; Helen Fox Reid; Louise Gauthier w. Tom Brennan and Cindy Kawaja; Nick Hamlyn; Ruth Lawrence; & Tara Manuel with Michael Rigler.

Also at the RAC, prior to the on-stage activities, there was a screening of “Ladies and Gentlemen...Mr. Leonard Cohen” – the National Film Board’s 1965 documentary portrait directed by Donald Brittain & Don Owen.

The love, respect and appreciation of all who came together joins a global chorus in tribute to maestro Leonard Cohen. These events raised funds to benefit the Artist Emergency Fund for Newfoundland and Labrador, CAPE (Cultural Artists Plan for Emergencies).
