CONCERT REPORT: Pula, Croatia, August 2, 2013

Post by tomsakic »

The show will happen on Friday, but let's start as Leonard and UHTC arrived here on Sunday from Vienna and are enjoying Pula and its surrounding area (as all fans following the HTC team members on Facebook can see).

The show is sold out since early July and tickets are in hot demand. According to the agency, LC management did not allow extra seats to be added to the seating plan. Local newspapers confirmed today that "there will be no tickets even on the day of the show as its custom - the show is totally sold out and there will be no tickets whatsoever" according to Adria Entertainment.

Local newspapers included photo of Leonard on airport in Pula on Sunday, arriving from Vienna. Today few Faceboook posts by local people showed Leonard posing with them for photo in Pula.

Leonard Cohen in Pula - a three-hour dance of love, wisdom and enthusiasm
Zoran Stajčić - 08/03/2013.

"Dear friends, do not know when we'll see each other again. That's why we give our best tonight, "said Leonard Cohen on Friday after leaving the stage in the Arena. Said - done.

The concert lasted 3 hours, except for a fifteen minute break in the middle part, and the 78-year-old singer-songwriter really gave herself over on Friday night at the legendary concert setting. Although the whole tour is designed as a promotion of the album "Old Ideas" and it was like four years ago another extraordinary concert experience for local audiences in which Cohen visited and reminded all the important places of his career.

Maybe it's fortunate that it was then former management led to the bankruptcy, and the old fox was forced to go on tour, because this time it appears that his appearance on stage beloved, as it is the right time for music legends like him and an opportunity to make their talent and experience selflessly, because long ago it was shown that for such as on pensions is not an option. There is no pension that can provide such a pleasure.

The ambiance Vespasian's Arena as it was an additional positive catalyst for the entire atmosphere. Powerful building that centuries preserved to this day is still lavishly in its beauty. Whenever a man is caught in it, it can not be unsympathetic to the durability and aesthetics of ancient times one of the thoughts is always that no arena of our time will survive and attain the status of monumental value. It will always be a reminder that the Earth once walked giants. Leonard Cohen's turn giant of our time. Songs that wrote decades ago are still current, almost as if he wrote a few months ago, was that it is a 'voyage' civilization hollow ship "Everybody Knows," prayer "Hallelujah" and the socio-political moment of a "First We Take Manhattan "- just her 'plan' of the conquest of power centers sequence Manhattan Berlin could not be more relevant, if one looks at the current world order.

His whole appearance was a show of wisdom and emotion and reason to the audience in the dark in silence watching the same. The atmosphere is what probably existed in ancient times and in times of tragedy execution, the ancient impulse when it was discovered that the world and life can be well-versed on the stage. The whole point of the show got a ceremonial character, Cohen as he was Aeschylus our time, and his great session singer Sharon Robinson, Charley Webb, and Hattie Webb chorus, which as he himself said at the concert give full meaning to his singing.

Cohen took the stage nearly ran out at the beginning of the show, and immediately went to the core of the "Dance Me To The End Of Love," "The Future" and "Bird on a Wire." Throughout the concert was in a good mood - the old gentleman who promptly responds with humor and provoking the audience, thus further raises mood. So at the beginning of the second set and received loud applause for easy solos on keyboards in the song "Tower of Song", while immediately threw to comment: "You're making fun if you my musical skills?". The situation as it is jazz virtuoso got a standing ovation for the children played a lullaby. To which of course got even more applause. Or when the third and final encore after "Closing Time" began with "I Tried To Leave You".

Detonator for the audience was the song "The Partisan" in the second part of the concert. Complete parter Arena that moment up with chairs and the next hour escorted concert on their feet until croonerskog evergreen "Save The Last Dance For Me," which is perfectly fit to Cohen and his immaculate suit and hat.

If something should get the name of a 'night to remember' then it was a Leonard Cohen concert in the sold-out arena in Pula. As much as it was massive, so it was intimate, discreet and most importantly prijateljski.Takvo atmosphere can create a truly just the largest ones. Maybe Manhattan and Berlin have not yet won, but Pula was last night fell down - in full enthusiasm.

Spectacle To Remember

A living legend is sometimes difficult to judge abstained. Or a judge at all. Especially when they are so touching and full of life, although its natural course closer to its end.

His year's dose Ježenj crying and welcomed all visitors to the second apparition of a large Canadian poet and storyteller, gentleman hat, Leonard Cohen. Crowded amphitheater gave one of the greatest amorovih torchbearer since ballads and pop culture. His šaptalačkom baritone and intimate tone sketch of a man living with a woman and a man without a woman, poetry and prose moments in which the leaves of tears as well as laughter, love coloring brown, gray, sometimes apocalyptic tones, speak out about the dark and twisting. There is Leo home. His gray comes in colors.

It is a great life was, turbulent, as such, and the accompanying music career. On the new concert tour feisty old people and promotes great bard last year, but still new album Old Ideas. On the same will perform several exquisite pieces among other common places and hits that never shone with the tops of commercial charts but surely sitting at the top intimnističkih moments lovers of beautiful and meaningful words, the synthesis of music and verse.

So opening gig starts with the first beats of Dance Me To The End Of Love, has taken off his hat and bow agreed on both sides. Start reserving for his term noisy beats because it follows equally visionary The Future and defenseless Pleska emotions Bird On A Wire. After that time, all his drink with palm. Ladies, their companions, their daughter, inebriation is unreserved despite overpowered sound system, so much so that it for mor occasionally override. The performance added up three hours in football terms with two half. Accompanied by top session Stemer and instrumentalists, nepreprepričljivim backing vocals of his faithful Sharon Robinson whose performance Alexandra Leaving Webb and two sisters Charley and Hattie to be If It Be Your Will do Arena sacred place where the silent, listening, linguistic and trusts.

Cynical old sage told the crowds along the beautiful picture of love, its beginning, duration and regions. And each stage performances had something magnificent. Anyone who did not shed a tear or let him bust the horde subcutaneous Mravac when Mr. Poet brought Suzanne, Hallelujah, I `m Your Man, Going Home, anyone who did not share their defy the First We Take Manhattan, anyone who has not danced her waltz with Take This Waltz or sang his poetry with the Tower Of Song, waved their lovers Lover Lover Lover seems like they did not live, and the futility of wasting your time and feelings. Everyone else knew why their eyeballs moist after the final release of the repeated encore with Famous Blue Raincoat, Closing Time, I Tried To Love You and processing Save The Last Dance For Me acclaimed version of the Ben E King and the Drifters. No false words, just the wrong people sometimes.

Especially knowing how natural shelf life does not leave even a multitude of years between the hordes of his admirers and poet apparitions live, as he himself indicated at the outset and announced The Future. Although still bouncing on arrival and exit from the stage, Leonard kneeling over halfway bowing his colleagues and the audience, joking to your account regardless of whether these stories suggestive baritone or svirucka among musical aliens.

Often people use hyperbole and exaggerated with epithets thus reducing the actual experience, however, testify Leonard Cohen in the autumn of his life and career is magnificent and irreplaceable experience. Even more, this concert may have been one of those sad but beautiful separations which everyone will remember his part ends.

Three years after the Zagreb Arena, the 79-year-old poet, musician and guru Leonard Cohen led the musical mantra in the sold-out Arena.
The concert is divided into two parts containing the biggest hits of his career. With a fantastic backing band, especially came to the fore session singer Sharon Robinson and the Webb Sisters as bright angelic counterbalance Cohen's 'golden' bass baritone.

Concert To Remember
Leonard Cohen In The Arena: Three Hours As In A Dream

Image

Author: Marinko Krmpotić
Posted: 4th August 2013th at 12:24

It was a concert to remember, perhaps because it was the last chance for a true touch with the most beautiful ballads ever written is the man who wrote and performed so memorable and running

"We don't know when we'll see each other again, but I know that tonight we will make every effort to give you everything we've got", announced at the beginning of his concert held in the crowded Arena by the legendary Canadian rock chansonniere Leonard Cohen and he fully fulfilled his promise during the concert, which began at 21:16 pm and ending at 32 minutes into the new day. Which means that aged Canadian - born on 21 September 1934 will soon turn 79 years old! Taking just one break of 15 minutes on stage it was a fantastic three hours!

And those three hours with great Cohen, coordinated backing band and an excellent audience in Pula (inbox from all parts of Croatian) went like a dream and the vast majority of visitors will stay in your memory as an unforgettable experience during which you could not only enjoy the truly brilliant izvredbama dozen accompanying musicians and Cohen, but find yourself face to face with the rich and beautiful rock past.
General culture

In fact, their debut album was released before Cohen for 45 years, and in the four and a half decades has created a rich and varied body of work whose parts have become part of the general (rock) culture, a significant part of the golden heritage could be heard on the Pula concert is - although it was realized within the framework of the tour presenting Cohen's latest album "Old Ideas" - in fact, offered a classic Greatest Hits form.

Specifically, the presentation of the new album was primarily devoted the final part of the first part of the show when we heard the beautiful "Darkness," "Amen," and "Come Healing", and everything else - except the theme of "Going Home" performed the first encore, was remembering the past and the songs grew up with generations. The concert is open to the beautiful love anthem "Dance Me to the End of Love" that immediately followed the performance hit "Future" Cohen recalled how the great love and can write great lyrics critical of contemporary reality. What followed was then one of the highlights of the first part, fantastic "Bird on a Wire" in which performance can hardly be indifferent to the extraordinary Cohen's vocals accompanied by great soul escorted Sharon Robinson and sisters Web and brilliant blues solos Bob Metzger. "Everybody Knows" is another of life and social injustices forced the audience to follow the rhythm, and the first part of the concert with the impressive performance of three songs from the new album finally brought the dance and singable "Lover, Lover, Lover," which seems to have foreshadowed more better continue the concert.

The second part begins brilliantly performed "Tower of Songs," perhaps the best song written from the nineties until now and that many people remember great duet with Bono from U2. But that was just the beginning of a beautiful unforgettable second part which continued its best-known ballad "Susan" and after her was the most emotional moment of the evening when Cohen unaccompanied by others, with only an acoustic guitar, played "Chelsea Hotel," a song about the true short love meeting him and Janis Joplin. On the way back in the sixties reminded then another and "Sisters of Mercy", "Gipsy Wife" and "Partisan" that Cohen would then rest a little while Sharon Robison brilliant performed the ballad "Alexandra Leaving" earning a round of applause, which was a real introduction to Another Cohen EVERGREN, the topic of "Hallelujah," followed by a seven-minute performance of "Take This Waltz" during which he presented to the whole band and the 23:15 concluded the official part of the concert.

If there were those who thought they would soon thereafter be the end, Cohen and his team were quickly reassure. At first encore they performed the famous "So Long, Marianne" and "Goin Home" and the end of "First We Take Manhattan" and had their mood audience - which is a big part of the front of the stage has moved to "Take This Waltz" - not given to go and in the second encore followed "Famous Blue Raincoat" incredibly beautiful "If It Be Your Will" performed by nurses Web and opulent and boastful, "Closing Time," which, as its name implies, it should be the end of Pula's beautiful evening. However, the scans were so strong and the mood so well that after two or three minutes again all returned to the stage, and the hoopla was created when Cohen first verse of the song "I'll Try To Live You" provoked laughter and applause that would then after more than three hours socializing haunting Pula night end, was taken to glossy finishes famous Drifters hit "Save the Last Dance For Me."
Everything was perfect

In a word, Leonard Cohen and the accompanying team of musicians and great back vocals held in Pula memorable concert. Everything was perfect - a beautiful summer night, the magnificent Arena, the mood performers and the audience who felt the rhythm and the concert was in the post, for example, a humming and playful "Partisan" in an instant completely shut up and listen to the divine voice of Sharon Robinson when performing "Alexandra Leaving, "and later on in the show but furioznog in complete silence to listen really angelic performance of" If It Be Your Will. " Definitely, Cohen in Pula was a concert to remember for a lifetime, especially if Cohen stops concert performances, which is certainly possible given his age. That is why a concert in the Arena was perhaps the last chance for a true touch with some of the best rock ballads ever written is the man who wrote and performed so memorable and running. kraj teksta

Mr. Cohen extremely keeps their privacy, in my room writing material for a new album, and does not like to be overly exposed to the sun, they told us yesterday his technicians

PULA entirely uncommon practice in the concert of big stars, Leonard Cohen at the Pula airport landed another on Sunday, a full five days before tomorrow's big concert at the Arena. Reporters learned yesterday that the acclaimed Canadian singer-songwriter staying at the Park Plaza Histria, and there we have the information on the spot in the hotel foyer confirmed two technicians from Cohen's team.

- Mr. Cohen extremely keeps their privacy, in his room, and does not like to exaggerate, but the sun, said one technician, and later his colleague in charge of catering, pushing carts with fruits and vegetables and yogurt, added: " Mr. Cohen in his room writing material for a new album. "

The day before the sold-out concert of Leonard Cohen in the Arena tonight will be from 19 am to midnight maintain sound check celebrated poets, singers and writers. Closing Arena for tourists in this period Cohen organizational technical team asked the Archaeological Museum of Istria, and there will be a whole amphitheater and tomorrow, the day of the concert, from 13 pm onwards.

It does not automatically mean that tonight visitors around the Arena unquestionably be able to hear live signature deep velvety Cohen's voice live, but that option is in one part of the evening is certainly not excluded. Vital, even in his old age - he was 78 years ago - a week ago at a concert in Ljubljana, addressed the audience, saying:

- I do not know when we'll see each other again.

We'll see whether tomorrow in Pula, like last week in Ljubljana concert where he opened with the eternal love song "Dance me to the end of love," and after three hours to finish with "So Long, Marianne." On the current tour Cohen promoting his acclaimed album "Old Ideas", but it is clear that even in the Arena will not fail to also sing his greatest hits, from "Hallelujah" and I'm Your Man "to the cult" Suzanne. On Friday, the long-awaited Arena held up last place raspodan Leonard Cohen concert. With a delay of ten minutes on a simple stage appeared to be a powerful band, that Cohen came back, slightly dotrčaviši to the microphone. Opening song was Dance Me To The End Of Love, which is all gathered instant shifted into another dimension - some were hugging, some kissing, some gently swaying to the rhythm of the song, and some smoked a cigarette with visible smile on his face.

While behind the Arena saw one last traces of light in the west, Cohen addressed the audience and thanked everyone for coming. He also said that he hopes will be a next time, but he did not know whether he would be and that he and the band will give the best. Accordingly changed the lyrics of Everybody Knows, and instead "take one last look of this sacred heart before it blows," sang "Take one last look at this mighty heart before it blows," and while at first to his heart, and then a look audiences. Though other verses sometimes changed, this change seemed more significant than others which is why those who have noticed blood in my veins because of fears that it may not really be so.

The concert was divided into two parts break, and the songs one after another admired - whether they were faster or slower pace, the audience felt their character and unanimously followed Cohen and atmosphere that is created. Nobody can describe the feeling when the sounds of Hallelujah point the view of the stars in the dark night sky until lightly puffed cigarette fumes or until the entire Take This Waltz left to spend in the arms of a loved one. Sharon Robinson, one of Cohen's longtime collaborator and his accompanying singer perfectly with his dark and velvety voice sang Alexandra Leaving and deservedly received a standing ovation. Of course, the audience no one other required so that the middle of the tracks could pierce applause and delight as it is really very difficult to hold back emotions while going on something so wonderful.

After the song Take This Waltz crew briefly left the stage that would soon return to the unexpectedly long encore that included one of the saddest and most poetic songs ever - Famous Blue Raincoat and gentle If It Be Your Will Webb performed by nurses who are also supporting Cohen singer. Charley on acoustic guitar and Hattie the harp accompanied each other and show how their voices perfectly complement each other in pure harmony.

With the song Closing Time seemed that the concert ends, but then followed by the second encore that began with the significant Cohen I Tried To Leave You as the audience provoked laughter approval and emotion. Afterwards sang Save The Last Dance For Me and left the crowd a good mood and still under the impression of what they saw and heard. He showed that he really gave of their best, as well as his band which have been sadly lacking two members - Dino Soldo and Bob Metzger.

The entire concert was pervaded Cohen's communication with the audience - many thanks, jokes, messages and ultimately forgiveness and blessing sent to all the viewers and their loved ones. It's hard to express what exactly is going on this warm summer evening in Pula - you had to be there and experience it. When you take away the time as the concert was delayed, as the weather breaks, we'll get three hours of pure gigs thus rare artist who can boast. Maintaining quality at the top level until the end, Cohen has shown that there is much more to give to people who listen to and love. In the hope that we will be back again - Leonard, see you there!
