Global Chart Report
Lana Del Rey lands first new no.1 of the year
Friday, February 10, 2012
by Fred Chuchel, Dresden

The 25 year-old American singer / songwriter Lana Del Rey has enough power to kick off Adele's '21' from the tip. Lana's eagerly awaited debut album 'Born To Die' shoots to the summit after
initial sales of 327.000 copies, supported by the ingenious lift-off 'Video Games', which climbs at no.21 on this week's track tally. Adele's '21' slides one slot at no.2 after a minor 1,5% sales decline to 247.000 copies and breaks through the 17 million border with the total sales. '21' is nominated in all significant Grammy-categories: Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal Performance. So it seems that Adele will be the big winner of the 53rd Grammy Awards on February 12 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Back on this week's hitlist the 77 year-old Canadian singer / songwriter / poet / novelist Leonard Cohen celebrates a big comeback with the magnificent effort 'Old Ideas'. The album logs in at no.3 on the global tally with 190.000 sales. J-pop star Ayaka arrives at no.4 with her third album 'The Beginning' (108.000 sales) and another J-pop act, Yuki, follows at no.5 with her seventh studio-set 'Powers Of Ten' (72.000 sales). Also new are Japanese rock band Spitz with 'Orutana' at no.9 (49.000 sales), South Korean rock act Five Treasure Island or short FT Island with 'Grown Up - 4th Mini Album' at no.12 (43.000 sales), German panpipe player Leo Rojas with 'Spirit Of The Hawk' at no.27 (28.000 sales), the legendary rock act Metallica with the EP 'Beyond Magnetic' at no.30 (26.000 sales), gospel artist Fred Hammond with 'God, Love & Romance' at no.31 (26.000), the Mexican banda group La Arrolladora Banda El Limуn with 'Irreversible' at no.32 (26.000) and finally the 12-member J-pop group Super Girls with 'Everybody Jump!!' at no.35 (25.000).

Platinus status means 80 000 sales in Canada.
If they count it weekly:

Canada - 80 000
USA - 41 000
Rest of the world - around 70 000

I read it on leonardcohen.com/ca/ which is strangely updated more frequently than leonardcohen.com/us/

But when you enter leonardcohen.com it lead you directly to /us/ so you have to type manualy http://www.leonardcohen.com/ca/ to get there...

By the way, do you remember the first lines from Up with the Birds (Coldplay, Mylo Xyloto)?

The birds they sang, break of day
'Start again' I hear them say
It's so hard to just walk away
