Leonard sent us two of his recent drawings

Postby jarkko on Fri Dec 09, 2011 10:37 am

I received yesterday a new contribution from Leonard for "The Blackening Pages" of The LC Files (http://www.leonardcohenfiles.com/mirror.html).

Use these links to see the drawings:

THE MUSE OF THE LABORATORY http://www.leonardcohenfiles.com/museoflab.html
THE GRIM DAYS http://www.leonardcohenfiles.com/grimdays.html

...and there is a good reason why this message is located in the "Old Ideas" section of our Forum!

Thank you Leonard and Jarkko.

Leonard's humor is inimitable.

Frankly, I don't as yet see the connection to Old Ideas, apart form my own personal associations. Perhaps the poetry in the second drawing is part of a song on the new album?

Interesting! Internal/back cover art maybe? And perhaps the second contains song lyrics.

I'm just stunned and mesmerized. Leonard's drawing for chemists at last, with retorts & flasks! As a chemist I just bow my head and say - thank you, Leonard for this masterpiece.
I do really hope that the reprints of this drawing will be available some time.

I would love to have BOTH of these on t-shirts. They're wonderful!
And it does cause you to wonder about lyrics to a song, doesn't it.
And such a perfect self-gift for you, eh, Mirek?

Right Lizzy - I am already thinking of such a t-shirt and a nice framed drawing on my wall.

Absolutely beautiful & fascinating, these drawings & poetry!! Leonard's self-portraits are always such a wonderful special treat!! (As are all of Leonard's works of art). I love gazing at the lines - so much emotion, honesty & intimacy there. . .

Thank you to Leonard & Jarkko for this generous sharing!

Yes, I wonder.

come gather the piece
all sctattered and lost
the lie in what’s holy
the light in
…. what’s not

I can almost hear it being sung to the rhythm of 'Show me the Place' (but of course that's what's stuck in my head right now)

I printed the muse on my colour printer --the eyes are green --and have a particularly penetrating characteristic.
The colours are interesting --primary colours except for the green and lips which are pink. A Christmas gift for me.
Thank you Leonard and Jarkko.

Great stuff! (the muse looks a bit like Neema). Strangely, I dreamed that I heard a new Leonard song last night...I think it was titled something like "Called By the Name". It was a short and moving song which segued into Neema singing her own name to the tune of Supertramp's "Dreamer"!

From Editorial Reviews at Amazon:
The album's cover design and drawings are Cohen's own.

Hmm - drawings :)
