I can understand why the clip reminded you of those lines from L.C.'s "Democracy."

Steven - I have not heard that particular Springsteen song before. Yes it picks up on the same theme.
I started watching Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown recently - he is an original himself with his mix of food, travel, culture and history and he is quite a character too.
