It seems that I am not allowed to voice my opinion about the merits of this painter.
Didn't realise he had any merits. And that's coming from a fellow Scotsman. Painting by numbers at best. Have been hesitant to comment as apparently you and I are sleeping together.
I went to the Jack Vettriano Retrospective Exhibition at Kelvingrove Museum and Galley in Glasgow a few weeks ago. It's is on til 23rd February, 2014. I really enjoyed it. http://www.artfund.org/what-to-see/exhi ... wwod6iMABg
I am sure that it has been well documented and commented on in this forum over the years, that Jack Vettriano has been a life-long admirer of Leonard. Among his paintings are the following titles:
"Bird on a Wire", "Beautiful Losers" and, of course "Dance Me To The End Of Love".
His work has courted controversy and varied reviews, however, certainly in Scotland, it is generally viewed in a better light these days. There are, of course, the art snobs, who have never accepted Vettriano, probably down to him being largely self-taught and not followed what they would term a traditional education or training regime and will never accept the validity and skill of his work(s). He is far too popular for their liking!
