Mosaic Main Photo Discussion

Pam, thanks for trying this out! I liked both the photo and the drawing. I tend to agree with the people who've said that we shouldn't give Leonard a picture of himself: that shot isn't really "of" him, although he's in it.

Do you collect pictures of us (fans) and put it to a Mosaic to give it to Leonard on his birthday?
If so..how can I give you a picture of me?

Chris, yes we will be collecting pictures of the fans. We aren't ready for them yet. I assume it will be by attaching a digital image to an email or uploading them to this forum. Check back for instructions. Pam

I think we have some agreement, though certainly not unanimous, that we need to move away from a photo of Leonard. I think many here like the idea of a band photo but it is probably not going to be possible to have something that detailed as the main photo. The variety of photos we will receive from you will extinquish the details necessary in a band photo. However, it may be possible to include band photos in another way. Laura and Pam are putting their heads together to come up with some samples that we can view, discuss and possibly vote on. This will give our discussion here a bit more focus. We have talked about objects to include, the unified hearts, a guitar. Anything else? Also, if you have ideas about how to arrange these items, post them. You don't need to do them up as a mosaic, just post interesting ways to arrange some things that mean Leonard to you.

Mary, on the issue of pictures of Leonard's children or grandchild, there are no public pictures of Leonard's grandchild, as far as I know. There are also very few photos of Lorca. In both cases, we presume that they have chosen to stay out of the sportlight or their parents made that choice for them. I am sure you are right in your thinking, that they would be the images Leonard would want to see most. But as fans, I think we'll have to accept this limitation to access.

If it were me, I'd find it a bit strange to be presented with a picture of my children or child with a whole load of peoples faces on it...think we have to think again.

*grumpy* anyway I voted for the video so wouldn't have to make decisions like this!!

Whatever everyone decides is fine with me, I liked the guitar one that I saw somewhere.

Well, I'm still on for using one of the photos of Leonard! Other than that I did like the one with the guitar and the woman. The one with several members of the band is also interesting.....but we seem to be missing DINO and Neil. Also, where are the Webb sisters and Sharon?! The whole band may be too problematic. A HUGE thank you to Laura and Pam for working on this!! You guys are awesome. However, as I am totally unable to assist in creating this masterpiece, I will acquiese to whatever the majority decision may be. We are so fortunate to have such creative people on the Forum!

I don't know if it has been mentioned as how to the final image will be picked. But I am wondering if we could have several to choose from. Such as a photo of a piece of his artwork, his guitar, a picture of leonard and then maybe a picture of leonard on stage with band members . That way we would have a vote and then then obviously the image with the most votes would be chosen.

How about a hummingbird? Or a hummingbird on a wire. (Not that they usually sit on wires, but it could be kind of funny, in a nice way.)

Oh no, hummingbirds do indeed sit on wires. Hummingbirds do come to many areas of my garden. I have seen them alight on branches of trees and on my clothesline (that's pretty close to a wire isn't it?), so that image is not a flight of fancy.

Have you really, Mary?! I think of hummingbirds as being constantly in motion, although I suppose they must stop to rest occasionally. I have a humongous flowering quince in my front yard, which has red blossoms and always attracts a few hummingbirds in the springtime.

Do any of your hummingbirds wear tiny fedoras? One of mine does, and it keeps introducing all the other birds and expecting me to applaud.

I had another idea for the mosaic: Since it's Leonard's birthday, how about an image of a huge birthday cake with 75 lit candles? Not all 75 would be visible, of course. (I suppose they could be thin green ones if we felt like being cute, or at least one thin green one could be slipped in there.) Each candle could have the name of a city where he's performed inscribed on it and/or feature images of the city. (The tour must have included 75 places by now.) Again, not all would be clearly visible, just the ones in the foreground, with the others more suggested. Some other image, e.g. unified heart, could be incorporated on the cake or as part of the background or something.

I suppose the Anima Sola could be in the flames!
