Tonight on one of our very popular nationally televised rock music quiz shows (RocKwiz, SBS), one of the special guests was Judy Collins, who was very entertaining and delightful.
She happily shared anecdotes about her influential associations in the sixties, including two references to Leonard.
The first mention was with regard to her role in convincing him of his worth as a singer and intention to record ‘Suzanne’ herself. The second mention (in response to a comment by the other guest musician) was with regard to Leonard’s personal impact on her. She made it clear she only had a platonic relationship with him and added this poignant comment: “I was in love with his songs and that was a passionate affair, still is…but thank God I didn’t fall in love with him, you know…I just…I know people who did and it’s not always a pretty story”.
I’m not sure if you can view this three quarter of an hour show outside of Australia or not, but here’s the link for watching it, in case you are interested and it’s possible to do so:http://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/program/3/RocKwiz
You will find the above mentioned segments from about 17.20 and 30.40 mins respectively.
