BBC Radio 4 'The Essay' programme on Suzanne

Postby Bhasi » Mon Jan 31, 2011 2:19 am

"Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman recalls the words of Leonard
Cohen's song Suzanne, and how they dressed a generation of
young women."

(15 mins - iPlayer is still only available in the UK, I think)

I missed this but caught a snippet on a pick-of-the-week programme this afternoon. Worth a listen, I'd say.

Thanks for posting that. I found that very interesting and the way she described Leonard's song was I would think for the most part spot on.

Thanks Bhasi. I found this interesting too - it nostalgically captures the era and particular circumstances that gave birth to that song, as well as the fashion legacy that the song seemingly had. 8)

Cheers,
Andrew :)

Oops! It's on Radio 3, not 4. Anyway, glad to see it's accessible well beyond these shores!

Very interesting indeed--I heard in this essay, what I had not consciously recognized in myself. My long dark cape and dark blue sunglasses--my frizzed out hair--and multicoloured blouse. raggedy blue jeans --hmmmm
