Fan Writing for the Program Book for Edmonton Event

Post by KimSolez »

Kamelia had to give up this responsibility due to other pressures. Laurie Cat Bennett in Ottawa has gratiously agreed to be the point person for the fan writing section of the program booklet. You can write to her at: laurielullaby@yahoo.ca

Lynda Harrison has also agreed to help with formatting etc. If you have material you would like to see in the program book, either prose or poetry, you can send it along immediately to Laurie.

All the best. - Kim

"Laurielullaby"? Yes. Shall do.

May I ask "Laurie Lullalby" what exactly a 'fan submission' is? "A heartfelt poem"? "A little story of a chance encounter?" A 'how I was bewitched by his last concert'? That kind of thing? I should know this, having been here before, but I've not been keeping up with the current news. Now, it looks like I might actually 'be' in Edmonton, and I can't believe it myself. How strange the world works. I guess one could say "Leonard works in mysterious ways". I was looking for dates and money details and happened upon this item, which is interesting all by itself. Oh, the deadline is surely passed. Thought I'd ask anyway.

Tks,
Linda.

The deadline has not passed, though it is approaching! Fan submissions are generally poems or essays about how one discovered cohen or how he influenced your life. Previous participants should have the handbook from each fest, which contains these fan submissions.

Hi there,

When you say the deadline is 'approaching', can you give us a 'date'?

Thanks a lot.

Let's try for June 1st, a month from now. Seems a good deadline.

Thanks! - Kim

OK, if June 1st is a good dead line for an Event that has been in the planning since Berlin, is there a 'word length' or a 'format'? Something that someone could 'try' to pull off? For instance: essays: x number words, poems - however many a poem takes - in Haiku 17 syllables. Sorry, I'm not trying to nag, but if, 'if' I'd like to submit 'something'. Posterity and all that.

Also, how many or how long are the entries going to be judged? Or, is this a judged affair? Just anything from anyone? Or a standard judged by those who have more than 'fan' experience? Thanks, sorry, Kim. With a few things on the go, I'd like to 'do' something. Like go down in history and all that. Tks. Because I have a story!!!!! And I'll never get the chance again! :) haha...no biggie. I'll live with it in my heart.

I think you can set the standard. Probably something less than 500 words. We are not planning to be very concerned about format and length as long as the writing is clear and interesting. Easy to satisfy posterity here!

Best regards. - Kim
