Glass' Book of Longing due on CD

Postby tomsakic on Mon Oct 15, 2007 11:09 pm

Our fellow-fan Ed tried to get the answer about mentioned CD release of Book of Longing, and he got this from Glass's site.

Dear Ed,

Thank you for your inquiry. To answer your question, yes, a 2 CD set of Book of Longing including Leonard Cohen's complete poems and artwork for the project along with the entire Philip Glass score will be available before the end of the year. Keep an eye out for availability updates at PhilipGlass.com and OrangeMountainMusic.com

Best wishes,

I'll end up getting this and giving it another chance with at least three more listenings. I'll also have my libretto in hand.

Thanks for posting this news, Tom.

It's a matter of personal taste Simon. It was not at all what we are used to with Cohen material but I actually enjoyed about 90% of it and will probably buy the Glass cd.

Of course the 4 cd set of Leonards own recording will be well worth having, and very much appreciated by all of us here if it becomes available! That goes without saying ;-)

I will definitely be purchasing the Philip Glass cd.
I can't say that I am a Philip Glass fan. I once heard some of his music about 20 years ago and was mildly enticed then forgot all about it.

I found that 24 hours after the concert that some melodies were echoing in my head...that is a good indication.

The whole concert was enthralling for me (I've already mentioned that on another thread) and I really look forward to hearing it in its entirity without the coughing, footsteps and pregnant pauses between pieces.

I thoroughly enjoyed it too, though I had never heard any of Glass's work before. I shall definitely be keeping a lookout for the CD, and maybe gently nudging Santa in that direction :)
