Ah, Violet, I adore the energy and style of Tina Turner. Have seen her a couple of times in concert. Amazing woman.

That's an interesting mix of the song. Yeah, I can't stand the rain.

Bit of a tangent here, but as David Bowie has featured a bit on this forum lately, here's a fabulous old vid of him with Tina:

nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands
- e.e. cummings

Those haunting lines reminded me of Sandra from Chile who posts here from time to time. She compiled a poetry book entitled Lluvia/Rain.

Sandra wrote:

la lluvia ha borrado el pasado
con sus pequenas manos

the rain has erased the past
with her small hands

interesting, too, how different they are.. the first conjuring, through negation, some ineffable quality of the beloved; the second, time as it gently moves us forward.

...and that's a marvellous word, "ineffable". Alan Watts said he wished to speak the unspeakable, scrute the inscrutable and eff the ineffable:-)

Thanks everso, Violet. Nos da.

Diane, even though I’ve posted this sequence elsewhere, it’s just so perfect for this thread.

.. I just wiki’d it, and see it’s been described as “perhaps the most moving death soliloquy in cinematic history.” I have to agree. It often comes to mind for me.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attacked ships on
fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the
dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost
in time.. like tears in rain. Time to die.

Perhaps you may look up the poem by Jacques Prevert, "Barbara".. Translation or in French.
The first lines....

"Remember Barbara
It rained endlessly on Brest that day
And you walked smiling
Radiant, enchanted, dripping wet
In the rain....."
