The Beatles and The Rolling Stones vs. The Beach Boys and Chicago vs. The Bee Gees

Two British bands and two American bands who first charted in the 1960s: The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Beach Boys and Chicago. They are the top four charting Rock And Roll bands of all-time on both, the Billboard 200 albums chart and the Billboard 100 singles chart. The Beatles are number one overall by far. The Rolling Stones are a close second. Further down the list are the Beach Boys at a distant third. Chicago comes in at number four, and they have a high mountain to climb to get close to the Beach Boys. Overall on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart, the Beatles are # 3, the Rolling Stones are # 5, the Beach Boys are # 12 and Chicago is # 24. The Beatles will always be the number one band on the list, the Rolling Stones will always be number two, and the Beach Boys will always be number three. That will never change. Chicago is a little iffy on holding on to that number four spot forever when its got bands like the Bee Gees, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith and the Grateful Dead on its tail on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart. When the last Bee Gee Barry Gibb dies, the Bee Gees albums will re-chart even higher and maybe new greatest hits albums will be produced and the Bee Gees will continue to duke it out with Chicago for that number 4 spot. VH1's 1998 list of the 100 Greatest Artist of Rock And Roll, which was voted on by the musicians themselves, included all the bands I mentioned above, except for Chicago. Chicago is not as popular with contemporaries, critics and the public as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Beach Boys are. Also, the Beach Boys are not as popular as the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. The Beach Boys have a lot more in common with Chicago than with the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. A lot of the Beach Boys later albums failed to crack the top 40, just like a lot of Chicago's later albums failed to crack the top 40 as well. The Beatles and the Rolling Stones never had those issues. All of the Beatles studio albums were either number 1 or number 2 albums. All of the Rolling Stones studio albums were either number 1 or top 5 albums, except for their first album. Chicago had more number one albums than the Beach Boys. The Beach Boys and Chicago toured together in the 70s and 80s.

No 21st century rock and roll bands will ever score 50, 60 or 70 hits on the Billboard 100 Singles Chart, or score 10 or 20 number one hits. The music industry is dead! No new bands will be able to have that kind of success. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys and Chicago are locked in. They will never be surpassed by any bands, new or old. No band will surpass the Bee Gees either. Overall, the Beatles are # 2 behind Elvis Presley. The Rolling Stones are # 8, the Beach Boys are # 17, and Chicago is # 20. Pink Floyd, The Grateful Dead and Aerosmith are no threat to Chicago on the singles chart, neither is any other band. They don't come anywhere close to Chicago the way they do on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart.

It's only Rock 'n Roll - Boldly ranking every Rock Hall Inductee

http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/ ... defin.html

1. The Beatles

If you were to base this solely on influence, maybe you could go with Elvis, Little Richard or even Chuck Berry. But when you put everything together, The Beatles are the most important musical act of all time and the perfect mix of the Rock Hall’s criteria of influence and significance. The Rock Hall loves the Beatles so much, it has inducted all four members as solo acts. No other act has accomplished that (and probably never will).

6. The Rolling Stones

The Rolling Stones didn’t invent anything. But they perfected a whole lot. The band has one of the most amazing and prolific resumes in Rock Hall history, releasing more than 40 albums (studio and live performances) and over 100 singles. The Stones pushed blues into the mainstream, becoming one of the genre’s biggest influences along the way.

13. The Beach Boys

The Beach Boys began as a rock and roll band, and ventured into surf rock. But Brian Wilson’s experimentation eventually won out. Phil Spector’s Wall of Sound redefined pop music. Wilson took things to the next level, merging various genres to establish pop music as a true art form.

92. The Bee Gees

The Bee Gees impact went beyond the disco era. The group became one of the most successful in history, selling more than 220 million records worldwide. The Bee Gees’ songwriting and vocal style served as a tremendous influence on future pop acts, from Michael Jackson and Elton John to Madonna and Beyoncé.

161. Chicago

Chicago has one of the more interesting Rock Hall resumes. The band’s early jazz-rock period was pretty influential, while its 1980s soft-rock run lacked anything groundbreaking but sold a ton of records. Put them together and you have a very impressive band that was long overdue for induction.
