Re: Music You're Listening To

I recently ran across this artist accidently listed in Jackson Browne's new videos. The album title and graphic cover attracted me enough to play one of the songs and I then played the whole album. I have only listened to it the one time but it seems good music and easy listening.

Here's the blurb on the artist:
Arthur Alligood is a talented wordsmith who has created an accomplished album replete with lyrical pearls that only an outstanding songwriter could pen.
He writes songs with an acoustic blend of folk, pop, and country with poetic and descriptive lyrics that remain humble and approachable through their differing styles.

Thank you Mary (and Anne) for getting me hooked on Rose Cousins. Wonderful voice, great words and beautiful music. :D I started listening to a couple of songs of hers that Anne had listed a while ago and then recently the last one for Stamatina's birthday. When Mary posted the link above to that song and the new album that did it!

I haven't heard all her songs yet but I really like this one called "Edmonton" (where are you Lisa!) from the album If You Were For Me:

and the title song If You Were For Me is great too -

....it's interesting that both her and Arthur Alligood have won the Mountain Stage Newsong Contest. She in 2007 and he in 2011.

One of the unforgettable performances at WOMAD this year was fado singer Claudia Aurora. A little reminiscent of Souad Massi:

Kush, Sliencio is out of stock on Amazon at mo so I will download it soon; am certain it will be an excellent album. (Have to finally accept this downloading way of doing things, I suppose!) Claudia is currently based in Bristol UK, and the video I linked to was filmed at Thee Cliffs Bay South Wales, an hour away from where I live.

I am not enjoying the music I am listening to.. 1) - performed by Brendan Kinsella- it is dry, boring and well performed and I have been asked to write about it. I've listened to several recordings and haven't a clue yet what to say.

and 2) for Joe Kubera who is like a John Cage specialist. the worst music ever. On top of these two tasks i have brain cancer (really) and am having some really trouble keeping my memory in order. I am not even capable of writing reviews. Needless to say this is volunteer.

Also listening to the Goldberg Variations by Bach, and teaching my 13 yr. old how to play Hallelujah on the piano.. She can finally correctly play the correct chords but recently decided she wanted to switch to the key of E.. very confusing for someone who really doesn't know the song yet.

Leonard playing in the background is a godsend... for some reason i can remember his words and melodies readily. Not too exciting.

I did get hold of a copy of this marvellous album. "Povo Que Lavas no Rio" may be my most-played tune this year:-) Claudia is still on tour...

Can I revive this thread?

Listening to Marissa Nadler. Someone online suggested that as I love LC and Joni Mitchell and Tori Amos, I'd love her too. And I have to say, they were spot on. I'm obsessed :D

Hi TeaOrange. I just looked up her Cohen covers and her version of Chelsea Hotel left me in two minds - I am not always a fan of breathless female singers, but on the other hand I really dig her intonations, esp.

we are ugly but we have the music.

changing the emphasis, and refreshing the line.
