Dear walkers my lovely wife Jean and I were out walking yesterday over the glorious frost covered Yorkshire hills . The winter sun was shining and the air was clean and crisp when I suddenly thought that it would be a good idea to hold a walking tour in the winter .As we continued along the sun decided to disappear and the gloom descended . Jack frost was nipping at our toes and we had chilblains in our fingers . Cold exhausted and tired we made a hasty retreat home . It just goes to show not all my ideas are good ones ! Roll on summer !

Phil,
that's a halfway good idea.

How about a pre - winter weekend late September, more social than walking?
I cannot afford Madison, and Connemara is such a long time away in 2013. A few days in Yorkshire would be lovely even if we don't do much walking ;-)

That's a good idea! I can't manage long walks no more :(

Late September! Hmm! Interesting . The 21st is on a Friday and we all know what date that represents ! Thoughts please.

Phil,
how about "base jumping" at Malham. parachutes required, but not much walking needed.

However, I just realised we have a big family wedding on 22nd September so the birthday weekend would be a no-no for me :(

I already have one trip to the far northern reaches this year, along with a certain member of this thread, but it might be hard not to come up if you're all there...

My suggestion to get together on Leonard's birthday would be nice but I am sure all those who are thinking of coming (if it takes place)would much prefer to hold it when you can attend . Jean and I live near a lovely quaint village with a pub/hotel . I am willing to make enquiries if there is enough interest with regard to staying a couple of nights possibly Friday and Saturday leaving Sunday at a weekend to be determined . I have one or two things in mind for activities but I must stress it would be very informal and as you said not much walking involved .
Diane
You have experience of these things ! I would be grateful if you could advise me what I should do next to determine how much serious interest there is . Would it be a good idea to open up a thread and take it from there .
Jean and I would love to see you all again this year as we are not going to Madison but we appreciate that people live busy lives and we are all having to tighten our belts a little so if in the end none of this materialises then so be it . Nothing ventured nothing gained

Hi Phil:-) People arrange mini get-togethers all the time so it's up to you but you could do a round-robin email and/or start another thread in this section. For myself I am afraid I could not commit until much closer to the time, although I'd love to be there. Maybe you could guage interest, pencil in a date, but leave things on the back-burner until the summer?

Phil I think it would be nice for a mini meet up. It is probably a case of build it and they will come. It would be great if you could get an idea of cost and dates and let us know. I am sure you will get more than enough people to come I am definately up for it and I am skint!!!

Phil,
I'm grateful for your comments about me being able to attend :D
Numbers must surely be limited to the accommodation available for a group of us in the same place in the one hotel/pub?
I would really love to come anyway, despite finances being tight right now. The house move has NOT gone according to plan!
