By what act of luck does it happen that someone
believes, though this may not be much consolation
in an anarchic universe, where what deserves
unimaginable punishment is granted health,
beauty, riches, intelligence; and what is there about
belief that prevents someone committing to the act
of dark self-immolation, which on a bell curve of hope
and despair there are fewer outliers to either extremes?
We seem, with heart wrenching reluctant acceptance,
to tentatively embrace the truth of a Jesus crucified
on our many crosses of loneliness, fear and loss,
where we too hang forgotten and forsaken between
betweens and the Nothingness or the Something.
