Just the opposite.
What is the opposite?

My first thought was laugh but that doesn't feel right. I'm not even sure of what word I should be looking to find the opposite of.

Hi Greg ~
"So be patient. It'll take a day or two."
??????????????????????????????????????

Well, all I can say is you are one organized, togetha fella, if that's all it's going to take to wade through a terabyte of iron rust to find it!

I won't even notice two days go by... and then it'll soon be here... and cool that is... thank you very much! I appreciate that a lot...!! As I said, or thought I said, or meant to say, I thought I had it saved on my computer... but I'm either remembering that wrong or it's gone.

Yes and I also assume that Leonard knew him because a girl I use to see in Vancouver once had a visit from both of them in the same week. It was to go out for drinks with Steve and with Leonard he arrived at her door with a photographer and they took a large series of photos together.
They were very serious highly posed pictures. I never did see any of them used by him and I once emailed one to anyone on the LC Newgroup who wanted one. Maybe you got one Judith.
I don't remember if she mentioned if Leonard and Steve knew each other but I just assumed they did but maybe not as in those days Steve was just playing in very small bars and Leonard was already an American Idol.

Jack, Jaaaack, (okay, that's Guy Clark on Boats To Build); but, you'd know that, too. Didn't read the NG for many months, sometimes years, at a stretch. I'll never forget, who *could* forget, your brilliant hammering home of the point of all the shit that happened there, though. I laughed and cried and laughed about it all again. It was closure, for me, vindication, and ferociously funny. Thank you for that; I knew then I couldn't help but love you. And, I do.

But, this is just to say I never saw the pic and I would love to see it; I know you can't display it here for copyright reasons; but, I don't know your email addie; I know Lizzy does; maybe she'll send you mine and you can share it with me. I think I can stand to wait that long. She gets up early, too, right? Thank you!

I meant to say, too, I thought you would know Walter Trout; I knew you'd know Steve Goodman (and, I'm sorry I wasn't clearer since it might have seemed a little insulting to you). Later, I thought, I wonder if you know James McMurtry and, if you do, which is prolly true, you'll prolly already have a copy of Where'd You Hide The Body; but, if you don't, in exchange for the pic (you know I'll cherish), allow me to recommend you find a copy of this CD. It's brilliant; one of the best I've ever owned; and, I know it since it's the only CD I've had to buy three times, like The Future (because I wore them out!). You won't be disappointed. It's stunningly breathtaking.

Speaking of, I've just re-viewed I'm Your Man, the Lian Lunson DVD, and I've not read any reviews of it nor any promo stuff (except I watched the trailer on Jarkko's OuttaSite); and, now, I must write my review for same. I've watched it four times, now; and, I don't want anyone telling me anything about it since I have my own thoughts on it and will share them soonishly; however, you will appreciate that although LC and Perla both say and sing Bird On The Wire, for some reason, and it irks me, too, for some gawddamned reason beyond my ken, the song is called and titled Bird On A Wire in the credits. What does that say about the creators of this DVD? Not much, if you ask me; and, you didn't, I know.

Also, I meant to say Tennyson, Blake, Billy Holiday, Edith Piaf, Byron, Shelley, Keats, Shakespeare, Aristotle, Basho, Emerson, Whitman, Dickinson, Longfellow, Auden, Lao Tzu, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Chaucer, and others are among LC's influences, to mention a few more and not be charged with the unforgivable crime of thread-drifticus. Ack!

Again, I can wait till Lizzy sends you my email; I'll try to distract myself writing the review; but, I am really looking forward to looking at anything Goodman, in spades.

Graciously & Gratefully yers, Jf/ox
p.s. Oh, okay, the McGarrigles on the DVD? Diviiiiine, so good to see the grrls in limelight shine (which makes me think they shoulda been on that Walk of Fame, too)
p.p.s. Oh, okay Part Two: Mel Gibson is one of the producers of the DVD; and, given his rant against all things Jewish . . . well . . . nuff said . . .

Well, I'm reluctant to inspire the wrath of Boho ... though it does seem to provoke some very amusing and erudite observations ...
but in both 1973 and 1975 - each time on my way to Greece and to Hydra - I attended the Cambridge (England) Folk Festival with some very good (still) friends - and the headliners from the U.S. were John Prine and Steve Goodman. I even got to say a brief hello to them at the beer tent after their fantastic perfs. They told us all they were very good friends from back in the days they both worked in the Post Office in Chicago. It was for me an unforgettable magic moment - one of many I experienced back in those days (Jesus am I old!)

> Well, I'm reluctant to inspire the wrath of Boho<<

Oooooo . . . ooRoo! Sounds like something I'd want to do :). Aw, we maim to please, nothing less will do. But, I am jellis as all get outta town, Jazz. Have all of Prine but the new one (which I hope to have next week, my vet's assistant willing, since I turned her onto him and she went and bought The Missing Years, Lost Dogs & Mixed Blessings, and the new one (and, to thank me for that breath of fresh ear, she bought the new one for me, too).

Had to have been, given that pair of ultra-perfectoes. Twice? Gads, what a gift! Did you get pics? It's really lovely the way these amazing performers all intertwine, IMO. Circles, spirals, quarter moons in ten-cent towns. Did you know Roy Orbison also worked as a mailman? See, we're not drifteritis. All of the above certainly influenced LC.

I found this amazing 'site, Musical Maps, it's really pretty to ogle; but, more to the point, it provides an overview of who influenced whom, et so onnera. Check out John Prine, Steve Goodman, Leonard Cohen, and you'll see quite an astounding contrast:

http://www.music-map.com/

I shall zip a lip since I don't want to tip my hand in the holy game of poker.

> (Jesus am I old!) <<

Jesus? <*squints* . . . *fumbles for rose-coloured glasses*> N-o-o-o . . . You don't look as old as Jesus to me; in fact, from my POV, you look like a million Buicks; however, if the names Tom Paxton or Tom Lehrer (on-topic <*beam*>) resonate with you, you can't be all that old, Gal. I mean, if they do, that makes me as old as Jesus, too; and, damnitall, that just won't do :(.

Good to hear from you; am looking forward to reading your review of the LA show, too; I think Lizzy has a cane she's able to lend you, in case you gotta walk (which is prolly what you'd do to see Pearla La Grrrla :). Lucky U!

BoHo
p.s. OMGasp, it just occurred to me, Jazz! Are you 4,111 years old? Oh, Dear, your dental work must be exponentially over the roof!

heheheh...
I did not get any pics at Cambridge FF unfortunately - but I have some others I may someday be seduced into sharing...
Here's another "Hydra moment" (from the life & times of yours truly) in 1989 I met a lady on Hydra who was once Jackson Brown's mother-in-law - the mother of his first wife and the grandmother of his son Ethan. She knew LC and had been to Hydra many times ...While visiting L.A. later that year we went and picked her up at Jackson's house. He was not home - but pulled up in his 1970 (?) Chevy convertible as we were leaving - so we got to meet him too! Her name was Nancy Farnsworth and she co-wrote (check it out) "Here Come Those Tears Again" with him.
Let's see what else"? Oh yeah - no not 4,111 years old - that's my street address - and as far as age goes - I'm becoming very enamoured of the new Hollywood dictim: "50 is the new 35" - it makes me about 38 (I'll take it)!
Thanks for the website info Bo (may I call you Bo?)- another one to add to my hundreds of favorites.
And one last brag: I first saw John Prine in 1971 when he played second bill to Jackie DeShannon at the Troubador. All these recollections are making me thirsty - I'm going for a beer...

Maybe I was misunderstood. The pictures didn't involve Goodman. They were of my friend and Leonard. I actually mentioned it to fish around to see if Lizzy wanted a copy and was hoping that it might be something that you still had as I no longer have mine in a digital form and I don't have a scanner. I was going to suggest you emailing her a copy if she was interested and you had a copy. Things get so complicated.

Things get so complicated.
Yes, they sure do... lack of directness will do that :) . I never would have seen even a shadow of me in that exchange, had BoHo not put me there with her request... not in one day, one year, or a million of either.

< * I was actually in there somewhere? * >

Somehow, I never got the impression that you had copies of the photos to access, either... but what do I know... it looks like you still have them hard copy. I was just the willing messenger, and I was interested in seeing them, too. It's not looking good for BoHo having her own copies of them, though, is it?

I also tend to miss some reeeeeeallllly subtle jokes  . I get the lag-time, stop-and-think, and then   types, though, like:

#1 ~ "Ask me if I'm a truck... "

#2 ~ "Are you a truck... ?"

#1 ~ "No... "

< * room rolls eyes & groans * >

Hey... don't knock it. At least I can remember it [since 6th grade, in fact]. More than I can say for most jokes.

P.S. Just for the record ~ no fishing needed when it comes to Leonard photos... I'm interested in every one that comes down the pike.

Have a wonderful time on the left coast with Jacob, Jack; I know he's a man after your own heart (which is what the Lord said about King David, since it will ring a bell with you). I wish you godspeed and all the ordinary miracles I know you never miss.

And, yes, I know, I watched that bullshit in utter desolation for you; I knew you were acting in someone's behalf; but, funnily enough, just this moment, Sarah McLachlan's song from the flick, Charlotte's Web, "Just Another Ordinary Miracle," is playing on the radio (and, she lives in Van).

So, yes, it might have been fallout for others; but, for me, it was rise-up and let it go, just let it go. It was a defining moment in my life, one I shall cherish grinning from thumb to thumb. Funny, innit? Never expected it would come from you; but, I count the horseshoes on my ass it did. Just an ordinary miracle; one for which I shall always remain grateful and never, ever, forget. Thank you.

Hugs to both you Laz d00ds, Jf/ox

Come to think of it [even though you're not here, Jack... ] and back to fishing, it was a bit unlike me not to have responded to that possibility of their being some photos out there like that... I was just making a concerted attempt to let BoHo, whom you addressed, answer your posting. Too concerted . . . well, now you got a nibble. Are you going to make any general inquiries for it/them in the ng? I'd still love to see them.

Have you stopped for petrol, yet? The father-son road warriors on the move...

Well, now, Jazz . . .

<*Lowers lights*>

Um, would you like to come upstairs? The air is fresh and cool. You can see for looking. No smog, no fog, no bog. It was 1969. My BF at the time, name of Wendy, was flinging around the musical block and, at one point, had one of her famous encounters with Booby D. I met him at the Mariposa Folk Festival the year Taj Mahal played. (Met him, too; he was sweet and so responsive.) Booby? He told me he was too busy thinking to be interrupted by some hippie child wearing bell-bottoms and a halter top (well, I have a great ass and shoulders; but, boobs? Nope. Still, no sag in that department since I'm now 'bout your age in the new Hollywood chronologicality which I love).

Okay, so I am hearing these stories about Booby in bed, right? You know what? He was so careful, so utterly careless of others' feelings, he told my friend he'd love to keep it up; but, he couldn't come on over and cross the line because he had such a problem with paternity suits. She dumped him. Then, she latched onto someone born to run in NJ. Last I heard, she was a speech pathologist, prolly 'cause when Booby talks, he kinda mumbles. I do have a pic of the pair of us; it's in McGill's McLennan Library in Jack's hometown.

Not enough? Yeesh, what's a girl gotta do to wrangle pics outta you? Alright. I have seen BB King (five nights in a row at Toronto's Colonial) and, John Prine around the same time you did. "Dear Abby" was a smash, for years it was our anthem. We called everybody Buster :). The piece I wrote on Prine won an award, prolly 'cause of its lead: John Prine's no longer a mailman; but, he still delivers.

You know, we used to have a really fine d00d, Mark Barker, posting on the old NG and I wish he'd find us, we're almost 38 Special. He'd love this, loving Jerry Jeff Walker, Mickey Newbury, Prine (whom I understand has throat cancer; but, I might be wrong). I always think of another poster in the ol' NG when I hear Darlin', too. Dar. Wish she'd open her eloquent yap more often. And, yes, Lizzy mentioned ValGal. She's missed, too. How long it's been. Still, each is so vivid in my mind, it's like time ceases to exist when you love these guys.

I had the privilege of covering one of the last shows Roy Orbison ever gave north of the border. It was unbelievable. His range was still astonishing and, I don't know, when he sang "Crying," I was. And, I'm supposed to be the professional.

I've got an autographed pic of Billy Ray Beautiful thanking me for the work I'd done on him during his sayday. No biggee. But, it impresses guys and who am I to argue? (Never mind, I brag to differ.)

Finally? I've heard Dwight Yoakam framed the feature I wrote on him when This Time was released. Apparently, it's beside his industry trophies. I also have a tape of our interview and, right at the end, you know what he says? Judith, I've been in this game all my life; you're the exception that makes the rule. I am honoured -- er, honored -- to be a subject of yours. You're the first person who knows as much about this music I cannot but love as I do.

<*Lights candles, pours a little La Fitz La Tour 1989*>

Would you like an olive branch with that, M'Dear? Am I coming through grovellishly loud, proud, and clear? Like Lizzy, I'd love to hear more of your very interesting and infinitely intriguing life saga. You've been blessed with encountering some of the best and it's truly wonderful you're willing to share such gems with the rest.

K. Fork 'em over!

TIA!

Bo
